the game is Rock Band not Metal band but i do understand what you are saying

Then why put metal bands in the game in the first place? Thanks though.

True true, you are 100% right but what I meant about opening doors is something you said above.. how many mindless fucks have actually heard Painkiller ? .. alot more now
Priest was one of the first metal bands I heard.. I couldn't get enough after that .. I had to get my hands on every metal band I could find.. and you sound alot like me (also love Manowar and agree there should be a hell of alot more heavy bands on guitar hero) That you know when you get into metal it is a life style and not just a casual music choice ..
you are 100% right about these games only praising esthablished bands that don't need help.. my point was these games are turning kids on to metal (slayer, motorhead, preist, Iron maiden, Guns N roses, etc..) and you know when metal gets in your blood it's there for life.. I am saying that once they get the bug at a young age from hearing it in these games.. it is surely going to lead to them buying somthing like an Angel Corpse CD ..
its the idea that these kids today may not discover this kinda music on their own for themselves like we did.. and ill tell yeah it is a good feeling when your friends 8 year old kid asks you if then can have a copy of reign in blood because they heard it on guitar hero
I appreciate you being respectful of my opinion and I say again I can't agree more that kids should be out there playing real guitars and making real music.. I just see these games as a positive influence.
The problem is that bands like Slayer, Motorhead, and Iron Maiden have all sold out in the end. They actually strayed from being true metal an turned into the "false metal" that Manowar often speaks of. They are 100% correct too. All Slayer after Reign in Blood was shit. That's a band that made one of the most magnificent albums and then make an album called South of Heaven and then follow it up with Seasoning the Obese. (I'll allow the SOD reference in this post) that makes me want to mutilate my phallus out of utter shame. Shit, and nothing but shit.
The young kids who play these games won't go and grab metal like the youth who listened to the bands the game features did 10-20 years ago. For instance, fans of 50 cent today aren't going to go out and buy Public Enemy or KRS records just as fans of Slipknot aren't going to go out and buy Exciter records or Nunslaughter ones. They won't even search for them. Finding Nunslaughter isn't tough because they've been around for over 20 years now and are still going strong. Games like this give them no desire to search because it keeps regurgitating the same fluff that has been puked up for 20 years now.
(Don't want to rip on Painkiller because I saw them for the first time on that tour in 91 and it was amazing)
Notice how Iron Maiden has made a huge jump. In fact, they sell more t-shirts than they did back in the day. That's just plain fucked up.
If you keep pumping the same shit to kids, they will listen to that same shit as well as the other shit. If you keep spewing the old shit, they will have no desire to find the new shit.
Like you said, metal is a mindset. It's a way of life. A video game can't give you that. Most of all, this one won't give you that because metal cannot be forced upon you. You have to find it. Some metal is more enjoyed by others. In fact, I fucking despise all black metal made after the early 80's. The black metal I like isn't even considered black metal anymore. LOL
Why give the kids the "traditional" sense of metal and nothing but that?
This game could do a lot more than it does, but it seems as though it is afraid to do so.
The majority of kids who play this game probably haven't heard more than half of the tunes on it.
Why not make it so everyone who plays it hasn't heard a single tune on it.
You'll open up more doors that way.
