so Rock music isn't being pushed as "cool"  to this generation.. with so many things   like Video games, ,my space, etc..  less and less kids are getting into Rock music and picking up instruments and learning to play..    These games open up  the doors for alot of great bands to be heard  by millions and not just the target audiences of the radio stations and the ocasional cable network

I think these games are influencing alot more kids.. to be "guitar heros" and keeping the dream alive.. if anything they are opening their minds to real musicians and great tunes.. and not the jonas brothers.. lil wayne   bullshit they are force fed everyday

but how many of the mindless fucks that play these games have actually heard the song "Painkiller" before?  A quarter of them if that.

Yes, and no.

True metal has always been there.  While Priest was doing their thing, Venom and Possessed were doing it harder.

Why must we keep pushing bands like Priest on the youth of today when we already did that 20 years ago?

At the same time though it isn't good for metal in all honesty.  It's good for cheesy bubblegum metal.  Corporate metal.  You want a challenge on guitar hero?  Why not put something off of an Angel Corpse record on the game?  Hell, you'll knock Painkiller right off the number one spot as being the toughest.  Now, you might say "No one has ever heard Angel Corpse" which is true, but how many of the mindless fucks that play these games have actually heard the song "Painkiller" before?  A quarter of them if that.

This game only opens up doors to bands who no longer need doors opened for them anymore.  What does this do for the real metal guys that tour the country in a converted cargo van, bathe at truck stops or gas station bathrooms, eat pizza off the hood of the van everynight, and get dicked around by promoters?  Nothing.

Corporate metal continues to praise those who have already been praised or those who don't deserve praise.

These fuckers don't even have the balls to put Manowar in one of these games.  They define metal and it often isn't pretty.  LOL

Once again, just my opinion on the game and the whole situation.  Nothing against you or anyone else who enjoys these games.  For once in my life I'm being nice and respectful of others opinions.  LOL

Doors don't need to be opened.  People actually need to play the instrument and just do their own thing.  Fuck lessons, fuck playing like someone else.

There is no right way to play that guitar or those drums.  It is all up to you.

Create your own door and open it yourself.  This game just creates posers who recreate instead of creating.

True true, you are 100% right   but what I meant about opening doors is something you said above..  how many mindless fucks have actually heard Painkiller ? .. alot more now

Priest was one of the first metal bands I heard.. I couldn't get enough after that .. I had to get my hands on every metal band I could find..  and you sound alot like me (also love Manowar and agree there should be a hell of alot more heavy bands on guitar hero)  That you know when you get into metal  it is a life style and not just a casual music choice ..

you are 100% right about these games only praising esthablished bands that don't need help.. my point was these games are turning kids on to metal (slayer, motorhead, preist, Iron maiden, Guns N roses, etc..) and you know when metal gets in your blood it's there for life..  I am saying that once they get the bug at a young age from hearing it in these games.. it is surely going to lead to them buying somthing like an  Angel Corpse CD ..

its the idea that  these kids today may not discover this kinda music on their own  for themselves like we did.. and ill tell yeah it is a good feeling when your friends 8 year old kid asks you if then can have a copy of reign in blood because they heard it on guitar hero

I appreciate you being respectful of my opinion and I say again I can't agree more that kids should be out there playing real guitars and making real music.. I just see these games as a positive influence.

for sure .. but the kids have to learn to walk before they can run.. They have to be able to appreciate a  "screaming for vengence" or "number of the beast"  before they can fully digest and love materpeices  like "Black metal" and "7 churches"

if it wasn't for coporate rock paving the way (now I live in the states good metal isn't as accepted and available as it is in europe.. sadly )   I may have never tried to find out what these bands were all about

Then why put metal bands in the game in the first place?  Thanks though.  smile

True true, you are 100% right   but what I meant about opening doors is something you said above..  how many mindless fucks have actually heard Painkiller ? .. alot more now

Priest was one of the first metal bands I heard.. I couldn't get enough after that ..  you are 100% right about these games only praising esthablished bands that don't need help.. my point was these games are turning kids on to metal (slayer, motorhead, preist, Iron maiden, Guns N roses, etc..) and you know when metal gets in your blood it's there for life..

The problem is that bands like Slayer, Motorhead, and Iron Maiden have all sold out in the end.  They actually strayed from being true metal an turned into the "false metal" that Manowar often speaks of.  They are 100% correct too.  All Slayer after Reign in Blood was shit.  That's a band that made one of the most magnificent albums and then make an album called South of Heaven and then follow it up with Seasoning the Obese.  (I'll allow the SOD reference in this post) that makes me want to mutilate my phallus out of utter shame.  Shit, and nothing but shit.

The young kids who play these games won't go and grab metal like the youth who listened to the bands the game features did 10-20 years ago.  For instance, fans of 50 cent today aren't going to go out and buy Public Enemy or KRS records just as fans of Slipknot aren't going to go out and buy Exciter records or Nunslaughter ones.  They won't even search for them.  Finding Nunslaughter isn't tough because they've been around for over 20 years now and are still going strong.  Games like this give them no desire to search because it keeps regurgitating the same fluff that has been puked up for 20 years now.

(Don't want to rip on Painkiller because I saw them for the first time on that tour in 91 and it was amazing)

Notice how Iron Maiden has made a huge jump.  In fact, they sell more t-shirts than they did back in the day.  That's just plain fucked up.

If you keep pumping the same shit to kids, they will listen to that same shit as well as the other shit.  If you keep spewing the old shit, they will have no desire to find the new shit.

Like you said, metal is a mindset.  It's a way of life.  A video game can't give you that.  Most of all, this one won't give you that because metal cannot be forced upon you.  You have to find it.  Some metal is more enjoyed by others.  In fact, I fucking despise all black metal made after the early 80's.  The black metal I like isn't even considered black metal anymore.  LOL

Why give the kids the "traditional" sense of metal and nothing but that?

This game could do a lot more than it does, but it seems as though it is afraid to do so.

The majority of kids who play this game probably haven't heard more than half of the tunes on it.

Why not make it so everyone who plays it hasn't heard a single tune on it.

You'll open up more doors that way.

well i'm in a real band and know how to play a variety of instruments but at practice once or twice a week we all chill and play rock band, because it has songs that we like to listen to and it's fun...on a side note i dunno how the discussion got into heavy shit like manowar and slayer when gn'r was never anything like that but take the game for what it is...a fun diversion.  honestly i've gotten a lot of my friends who like shitty music into older bands that i love because of guitar hero and rock band so i hope they continue to make them for a very long time.

Rhiad isn't close to AFD, it's average song almost every song from AFD is much more better, comapring Rhiad to AFD is  smoke

Who do you think plays that shred outro it is insane it could be Buckethead, it could be Bumblefoot but I would go with Buckethead it is 100% in his style and other GN'R songs also has similiar kind of guitar work in the outro ( Chinese Democracy for example).

ok i have no idea how the rock band games work, do you get the songs when you buy the game or do you have to pay to download them? people are saying shacklers revenge is the first single off the album but if it comes free with the game it wont count towards the charts right? and if it is the first single will it be on itunes aswell and also released as a cd single / vinyl ? and also didnt someone say shacklers was an instrumental when we first heard about it?

yeah man.. you get 85 (or 82) playable tracks with the game  and you can download expansion packs down the road.  Shacklers will be with the game.  At this point it is hard to say if Shack is going to be Single or not.. it kinda looks like it will just be with the game.. hell we don't know if it will even be available through Itunes.. it should be though .. can't see why they wouldn't want to at least try to make some loot off it if it is out
Guess we just have to wait patiently like we have been for 10 years and find out what happens  in Sept
