I also think this obviously cam to center after shacklers was leaked, I really dont think they care about the other songs, but if this guy can get them any closer to whoever gave up shacklers, which is obviously someone very close who has more, then hell probably just be fined and harassed.  Its obvious that they are worried about whoever gave up shacklers revenge, he might just have the final product.  I think they would have filed charges sooner than 2 months had they really been worried about the 9 song leak.

I think this update is to save face a lil.... Saying we are leaving it in the hands of the authorities rather than let people think that the big corporate GNR are going to take him down for all his worth

man that is fuckin sad isn't it.. what the "esthablishment" just said

big corporate GNR, and that is kinda true now isn't it, with the way some of this is playing out .

I guess "like an urhcin living under the street"  doesn't really ring true any more,   GNR once used to be so ugly and raw.. like a scab on the face of the mainstreem..  now they are kinda  like Corporate GNR with all this "negotiations" and "marketing" and endless "legalities"

you are right they are just saving face for sure ... but that face alittle different everytime something like this happens .. they need to say fuck it and get this thing out and done already

And this goes back to my original point.  They need to find the original source - someone very close to the band.  This kid is fine (in exchange for info.) but he is going to have to spill the beans and lead GNR closer and closer to the original source.

I don't think they care about the source either.  The source is probably no better off than the kid who posted the blog.  If you Geffen or whoever felt this was damaging the damage has already been done.

They'll put the kid through court, he'll bankrupt himself defending himself as well as having to pay fines, probably won't get any jail, but he'll be broke.

This is just being done to show that they are in fact doing something now so peeps won't sneak out a copy from the plant and upload it on the net, which they will anyways.  It will most likely be just another kid who decides to upload it.

GUNS REACTS TO ARREST

Presently, though we don't support this guy's actions at that level, our interest is in the original source. We can't comment publicly at this time as the investigation is ongoing.

We appreciate your understanding,

Guns N' Roses

The arrest and leaks are something official so I understand an update.

I also would like to add what I have stated in the past as my opinion which is, That Guns N Roses band members had absolutely nothing to do with the arrest nor will they have any participation in the prosecution. It is my belief that Chinese Democracy is the biggest story in downloading music and movies right now and an example was made, like the one (which I have mentioned already but shall again) they made of Tommy Chong, Bongs are bought and sold freely today and were bought and sold openly over the internet by dozens of people and companies , yet you seen that Tommy ( Public figure and activist in the fight to legalize marijuana ) was arrested.

On a higher note we are yet another day closer to an official release from Chinese Democracy. Shackler's Revenge is not only a great song but it is a great song to debut on RB2, and the message the lyrics send are direct , just as sleazy and filled with the same attitude that Appetite had 21 years ago. I can think of no other words I want coming from Axl Rose at this point then "Im gonna pull the trigga and blow them all away"

SLASH On 'Chinese Democracy' Leaker: 'I Hope He Rots In Jail' - Aug. 29, 2008

According to the Los Angeles Times, GUNS N' ROSES and the group's former guitarist Slash have commented on the arrest of a California man on copyright-infringement charges for posting on his web site nine songs from GUNS N' ROSES' yet-to-be-released album "Chinese Democracy".

Kevin Cogill (a.k.a. Skwerl), 27, is accused of posting the songs, which were being prepared for commercial release, on the Internet blog Antiquiet in June. The site crashed under the traffic, and he removed the songs after a few hours when the Los Angeles-based rock band's lawyers complained.

Now he faces up to three years in prison and $250,000 in fines. On Wednesday he became the first Californian charged under a 3-year-old federal anti-piracy law that makes it a felony to distribute a copyrighted work on computer networks before its release.

"I hope he rots in jail," Slash told the Los Angeles Times. "It's going to affect the sales of the record, and it's not fair. The Internet is what it is, and you have to deal with it accordingly, but I think if someone goes and steals something, it's theft."

GUNS N' ROSES released a statement: "Presently, though we don't support this guy's actions at that level, our interest is in the original source. We can't comment publicly at this time as the investigation is ongoing."

Do you think maybe they just did that to keep the name relevant now that attention is dropping off them.   So they make it look like they actually update their sight more than every 7 years so new or old fans think something is going on with the cd?
