I want Buckethead in GNR
« on: February 01, 2006, 10:28:19 PM »
What a fuckin player we had and he's gone, it makes me cry. To me, the due of Finck and BH blew me away - with Finck on rhythem of course... and i love Slash, so much emotion, so much soul. He was the man with the guitar is gnr, the star of guitar, i feel like Fortus or Finck can't be that guitar rock star, and i know alot of people dislike BH's "gimmick" - but just as a player he takes you away, his skill infused with Axl just made for something special, the chromatic way he plays (not using any scales although i'm sure he knows every scale in every dimished, magor or augmented or forign style) where he can just move from key to key at lightning speed and clean as a mother fucker was amazing, and seemed to fit so perfectly for the fast GNR solos.

For me: personally he's a bigger loss than Slash, but he's just my style.

So if you will, lets just debate whos out there now that playing wise can hit you like that.

Thats your opinion and this is mine:

Buckethead wasn't on Appetite, UYI, Lies and the Spag. Incident, wasn't a founding member and only toured with GnR for a few shows.

Slash was the biggest loss for GnR ever, noone could ever leave that would leave more of an Impact. The Mere concept that Buckethead could be a bigger loss than Slash is like saying Paul Rodgers leaving Queen now would be a bigger loss than Freddie Mercury but thats you're personal opinion so thats fine but. Izzy left the band, he was replaced and they carried on touring, Adler left the band they carried on. Slash leaves the band and we've had a few new songs and about 2 thirds of a tour. Slash leaving knocked Axl for 6. Buckethead didn't make a frickin dent.

true man...   Izzy was a huge writing loss though.. but it seems he can't write as good anyway. Adler is no big deal & never want to see  him in GNR ever again. he's such a mess.

What are your current thoughts about Kurt Cobain?

Axl: I said I'm going on ChiDem now and he said whatever & walked away other than that I've been busy.

How does this turn into Slash Vs Buckethead?

if you know music, you know buckethead is a better guitarist, in terms of music acknowledgment and technical skill, but music is an art, and i don't believe it can be narrowed down to such a basic concept, the perception to a listener will be the judging point, and to each his own, as a guitar teacher myself, i simply prefer Buckethead, as to me he is more soulful (gasp, i said it) than slash and can play circles around him in any style of music- for me!

Anyway, i wasn't measuring the impact on gnr, just the potential impact i think Buckethead could have had, on both slow and fast and anything inbetween leads.

Lol, I suppose you weren't around when Axl canceled everything that was supposed to be happening in 2004, when Buckethead left.

finck can become a huge star as long as they release cd... the only reason he is not respected widely as a guitarist is because he hasn't done anything big yet.  supporting nine inch nails isnt going to sky rocket you into fame.  i predict when(if) they release cd guitar magazines and fans all over the place will adopt finck as a great guitarist as well.
