I think Axl Rose IS Guns N' Roses, but you should remember that Gn'r had a breaktrough with "Sweet Child O' Mine", and who composed and played the opening guitar-solo? Thats right! Slash did!

So I think it was the combination between Axl's kick-ass voice, and Slash's unique guitar sounds, who made Gn'r to one of the greatest rock bands in history.

But i agree with you that Slash in a way left Gn'r for not acceptable reasons + Velvet Revolver SUCKS!!

yup, Sweet Child O Mine and Jungle were the first 2 GnR Singles, and what is most recognizable about them, the Guitar intros. Without those 2 songs, GnR wouldn't be where they are. Axl was one of the big parts of Guns but so was Slash, there is no doubting that. Yet i'm still to be impressed with anything from the Velvet Revolver camp. The only thing that was remotely interesting to me was Slither mainly through the solo.

Not only those two, but "Paradise City," "Nightrain," and "Out Ta Get Me" all have very distinctive kickass guitars thanks to SLASH. No one can give full credit to Axl for everything that happened back then. By doing so, he/she is blindly worshipping Axl rather than listening to the music itself. Axl's got a great voice, but there's plenty of great voices in music. Without Slash and Izzy's guitars, GN'R would have stunk up the joint just as Hollywood Rose did before (although Izzy was in Hollywood Rose, but with Slash he went to a whole new level).
