Axl's Contribution To Guns N' Roses - Discussion
« on: March 14, 2006, 06:18:47 PM »
With all the current G N' R versus Velvet Revolver topics between the bands themselves and the fans opinions towards them, I thought it be interesting to see how much Guns N' Roses material is actually credited to Axl. I hear people bashing VR but collectively they are technically more of Guns N' Roses than Axl. Unless of course this new incarnation is looked at differently in all but name. But hey, I'm a fan of old G N' R, new G N' R and VR. I really couldn't give a fuck about the politics. Anyway, I'm looking at my Appetite For Destruction and I've just realised all songs are credited to G N' R so that throws my list of Axl's songwriting out the window. But what do you lot think?

yea izzy had alot to do with the song writing it was mostly him and axl or axl would work with slash or duff or just write a song by himself so axl was involved in almost every single song in some way

Adding one line or one "ow !" or "Alright !" to a song does not a song-writer make, but that is how he ended up being listed on some of those tracks. His name is also always last. Obviously he's the frontman, so as far as words go he is permitted to add whatever he wants to a song, and this gives him automatic song-writing credit. At the end of the UYI tour dvds, when the credits come up, if I remember correctly the band was credited on an individual basis, and most of the songs on AFD can be attributed to Izzy anyway.

When GN'R were huge, each member was recognised in his own right, it wasn't just Axl this and Axl that - as it is now. Axl's contribution was to court all the attention for himself and break the band up.

I think Axl did a great job and so did the rest of the band in its hayday (at least publicly) until riots and disrespectful idiots (who like to insensitively push peoples buttons) took the band on a difficult downward spiral.

Nobody is perfect and I'm sure hindsight 20/20 they all have some regrets in one way shape form or another. Pointing fingers and blame at this stage of the game is pointless unless whomever is realisitcally doing it (accurately) has some purpose other than defamation hopefully.

Axl, when people don't say it, but spray it (in your face that is), spit back and walk away with your head held high. Glad you are out and about enjoying life publicly again. PEACE! jmho  :)

Axl=GN'R

False

The original band members = GN'R

Together they created some of the best music ever recorded. Each member had a major creative contribution that gave the band its unique style. Slash and Izzy's guitar work and Axl's vocals are what seperated GN'R from ordinary bands of that time period. No matter how you look at it no single member is more important than the other. When Izzy left the band started to go downhill. Axl Rose is not GN'R by himself. That is like saying Robert Plant is Led Zeppelin...it's just plain false.
