2002 Guns N Roses PLEASE INFORM!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: March 19, 2006, 11:03:29 AM »
I Don't Want To Make any Old Bullshit Up, But Didnt GNR Tour In 2002-3 Or Something. Wouldnt There Been A Much Bigger Buildup For Chinese Democracy Because That Was The First Anyone Had Seen The Band For A While, Well Since The Spaghetti Incident. So If There Was Such A Buildup For Chinese Democracy In 2002 And They Didn't Realease It, There Really Is Nothing That Won't Stop Axl From Not Realesing Chinese Dem This Year. If I'm Wrong (Which I Probably Am) Please Tell Me Something I Don't Know.  :retard:

I was told that there wasnt any promotional effort or publicity about it. Most people didnt even know they were on tour. And this is funny, the people that did know, half of them didnt even now Axl had a new band.

What are your current thoughts about Kurt Cobain?

Axl: I said I'm going on ChiDem now and he said whatever & walked away other than that I've been busy.

Yeah, I think the ill fated tour was for the in-the-know only crowd, and some radio stations played promos for it. Kinda like when the Sex Pistols toured in 2003

They also did an MTV 2002 gig in New York possibly that went well. Axl's voice was a lil not the norm, but I heard he was missing ear monitors so that makes it a lot harder for him to regulate his voice.

Er, you mean the VMA's?  That was hardly a gig.  And it wasn't so much the ear monitor as he was just a little over excited and got a bit winded.  He made up for it a couple months later during the tour.  I would agree that the tour was an "in-the-know" affair, if it weren't for the fact that I was surrounded by cheese-dicks that kept asking me "When did they replace Slash?"  I felt so embarrassed being the "man with the knowledge" considering there are a lot more rabid fans around than me.  I had to explain that Finck and Stinson were the "veterans" of the new members and where they came from, Buckethead did numerous gigs with Primus while Brain was their drummer, and Fortus played in the 90s-onward incarnation of Psychadelic Furs.  They all felt the band played well (huge pop for Finck during the SCOM solo), but the most common response was "Carnival side-show" or "circus" when describing the band.  Hopefully when they tour this summer they will have a more unified look and feel about them.  Well, I guess as long as Pittman isn't wearing that gay-ass leather hat like he did at RIR3 we should be fine.  Without Buckethead's monkey-ass making things silly, it should be a good show for those who aren't as "cultured" with the new band as us.

Guns N' Roses released four press releases in regards to their 2002 tours (two for Asia/Europe, two for the U.S.), not to mention the various press releases that the venues/festivals released.  These press releases garnered significant press coverage of the tour.  Guns N' Roses also announced their return prior to the U.S. tour by performing on the MTV Video Music Awards and giving MTV a rare Axl Rose interview.  Guns N' Roses revamped their website to bring visitors info regarding the tour.  Guns N' Roses did radio interviews in many of the cities they played.  Guns N' Roses released a large line of memorabilia (shirts, hats, pants, ect.) promoting the "Chinese Democracy" World Tour.  Guns N' Roses had street teams handing out free postcards and shit outside the venues.  Guns N' Roses were front-page entertainment news starting with the first date of the tour, thanks to the Vancouver riot.

Other than releasing the album, what more could Guns N' Roses have done to promote the 2002 tour?

The poor sales of that tour are a reflection, in my opinion, of the size of the venues Guns N' Roses chose to play, not of the promotional efforts for the tour.

also think the poor sales in the U.S. were a reflection of no new music from the new lineup..........many weren't interested in seeing a GNR lineup play the old songs without Slash & Co......think an album would have spurred more people to want to hear the new guys perform the new songs as well as feel better about them pulling off the old ones.....

I personally heard at least on dumbass state at a 2002 GN'R show "why is Slash wearing a KFC bucket on his head."

I agree with you regarding the lack of new music, but I'm not sure that most people realized that the line-up had changed.
