You would think if Better was This I Love, Axl might mention that title in the chorus or something, unless he changed the lyrics or didn't have them written when he made those statements.

I think Axl meant that "This I Love" was, emotionally, the heaviest thing he ever did, not musically but feel free to prove me wrong.

you're right.  when This I Love was slated for a movie a couple years back, the lady that was fighting for the song to get on said it was the heaviest song, lyrically, he's ever written.

yeah that part is but the rest of the song....Don't get me wrong it's a great rock song but it's not like Korn heavy or Megadeth heavy. I love the industral overtones to it also. Not overdone at all. And his writing....the writing......he sure has gotten "better" with age, plus he's been through a lot.

I doubt this is This I Love. That song was suppose to be in the November Rain, Estranged type category as an epic. Better isn't epic. Just a rock song.

After all this time of waiting. I think Axl's been writing about is his past, present (at the time), the future and whats in his heart and how he's changed. Metaphors towards old friends and girls he's loved, people he has hurt. How people have fucked him over, his hurt, his healing, his awakening.

Damn if all he wrote about was his past and how people has fucked him over- that would make excellent metal!

Actually, Axl said that himself back in 1992.

"I wrote and recorded a new love song that I want on the next record called This I Love, that’s the heaviest thing that I’ve ever done."

The Sp1at story about "the lady that was fighting for the song" clearly credits Axl for the quote, too.  That story does add, however, that the song is a simple piano ballad, now with drums, that is 5 minutes or more in length and it is a very heartfelt love song.

I wouldn't classify There Was A Time as a piano ballad though.

Neither would I, probably because it isn't. ;)
