The most eagerly anticipated album of all time?
« on: March 29, 2006, 08:07:42 AM »
Hi, this is my first post although i've been a member and visiting the site for a while now. In light of all the recent new, rumours ect.. It got me thinking, apart from us, virtually no one knows this band exist anymore. I know i didnt. I first got into GNR when GH came out, my dad brought it and i loved it (it is now mine). So i was shocked to find out they still existed. The point is, i've seen no advertisement for the tour or the donnigton festival, no national/popular media mention about GNR ie national newspapers, TV ect.. and of course, no official word on anything. yes these points may have been brought up before but they are all linked. Dont get me wrong, im a huge GNR fan and Axl fan (i recently went to a fancy dress party as Axl - kilt, bandana, ginger wig lol) but theres been dicussion over the name!!!! G & R or GN'R and whos in the band!!! Christ, im embarased to write this! I guess i'll still be here if the album fails to surface, although i ve been waiting 2/3 years, not 10+( im 16) so will you guys still be here if CD doesnt arrive? For Guns to sell cd's and stadium seats some serious promotion has to occur 'cos as i said, nobody knows they even exist!! P.S. I hope they tour england, dont fancy donnighton festival cos i be going to see one band only! One final thing, does anyone think "the general" (assuming that it exist) is a tommy stinston song, im speculating, but at rock in rio Axl introduces him as general tommy stinston. I only say this because people seem to suggest its Axl's hired hands band (bollocks IMO) and that maybe its an indication of a collaborate effor. your thoughts?

Well i'm guessing you're not from Europe, in countries like the US, Australia and the UK etc. Rap and hip hop is king dick in the music industry, the announcement of a GnR tour means nothing to those countries, they'd rather listen to 50 cent and the like.

The tour is in Europe as well, so that would have a bearing, but the Demo's got a little bit of media coverage, had rock magasines the world over salivating at the thought of seeing GnR once again, and possible resurrecting Rock.

It most likely was the most anticipated 7 years ago, but due to Axl's absense from the limelight most fans would have given up, but at least we appreciate what the band has and will accomplish in times to come. Expect it to go platinum once or twice in the US.

Long live Axl...

I agree that many don't even know that Guns exists anymore. I know that as fact cuz many of my friends who are huge Guns fans didn't know anything about this new version of Guns till I started talking to them about it. We can't simply think that just cuz we all know Guns is around and a new cd...might come out soon that everyone else does also, cuz that's not the case. They gotta do some major promotion cuz if the leaks are promotion, I'm doubting that's enough. I personally went years not knowing anything about what Guns was doing. I heard about Chinese Democracy a while back and I just forgot about it for years. I just finally remembered it recently when I started listening to Guns a lot again and decided to check around online for info.

i am from england! thats part of the point i was trying to make. (it was better a few days ago but forgot what i intended to say). All my from like rap crap and hip hop and that virtualy no coverage is given to what was once the biggest band in the world. If oasis tour fro example, theres always something in the paper a english magazine and on TV (cduk or the now sshitty totp's) but with Guns, NOTHING!

Hello mate. Last time I checked Cornwall was is England which I hope is still a part of the UK.

I think that it is the most anticipated album ever, but only to an elite group of underground renegade music fans. You have made contact with the resistance. We have a secret handshake, a motto and an initiation ceremony.... Only kidding.

Yes it is going to need a lot of marketing/promotion to get g&r (i think it is now) back up there. I think that when Zane Lowe gets hold of something then you will know that the album is on its way. Until then its just a lot of hot air and mis-timed april fools jokes.

looks like we're invading. i'm from cornwall too! Something i noticed a while back was that mygnr has 11 millions fans cant be wrong on its site. i fail to see how 11 millions people are aware of Gun newly reformed existence and if so, not only is it the most anticipated album, but it will surely sell at least 11 million copies? and as far as the demos go, the album could really be amazing if supposed songs like the general, prostitute, seven and this i love are as good as they are hyped up to be added to what we've already heard!

i'm from Spain, the second european date is here, in madrid. this tour is obbiously for fans, for the people who has been waiting for years to get their hands in the album. when this tour ends, guns n' roses will probably be number 1 rock band again and the next tour will be focused in much larger audiences.with this tour and the release of a single everybody will know guns n' roses has returned.

I hope your right, but what if this thing turns out to be a flop like last time. I hate to repeat whats been said but until management or Axl confirms something, tickets wont sell, CD wont come out and GNR or G&R wont rule the world!

Yeah, 'Smile' buy Brian Wilson (I think thats his name) from the beach boys went nuts a few times while writing it. Ended up taking him 30 years I think, which so far as I know is the most anticipated in terms of time taken to write.

Lets hope axl isn't trying to beat that record... Suppose it depends on how you measure anticipation.

ps: nice writing Mr Capital.

Well maybe not as much as "Be Here Now" (Oasis) or perhaps even (in the UK at least) the Second Coming (Stone Roses).

Once the promotion kicks in, people are going to want this album so much. At the moment only a small amount of people actually know about it.

yo, DTROSES, i dunno where you live, but i'm around Chicago.  rap has been out of popularity in the Chicago suburbs for at least a year and a half.  my school is divided in half, basically between emo fags and REAL rockers.  rap is basically obsolete around here.

Ilive near one of Cihcago's biggest suburbs, schaumburg, and there are still a decent number of rap fans. The most surprising fact is that, the mahority of the people living here are cauc-asians ^^. Rap has not died in chicago. Rap sux, but give em some credit, they have a large number of fans don't they?

You have no right to an opinion about GnR as you nothing about them from my perspective...I'm 40...I was pounding brews with Slash and Steven Adler in 84...you're a punk who just wasted my time

What a load of shit you lying, pretentious fascist punk. You think that just because you had a beer with someone (when you were 18 years old) that it makes you better than us. Everyone is entitled to an opinion........ Seeing as you know so much about them, maybe you can answer some questions for me? When is the new album coming out? Can we expect a full tour this summer? Will we hear any new music?...... Didn't think so. You know exactly what we do which is not very much. Old news is no news.

The only promotion i have seen so far is from kerrang but that was just the download advertisment.  There wasn't actually any information.  Other magazines have discussed the first tour back in the UK for ages, but they don't actually mention the new album at all  :crybaby:

I guess I am lucky that i do live in Austria cause here in Austria or better in middle Europe basically teenager(10-16 years) are listening to 50 cent and his crap "music". At least no one was listening to Hip hop in my class when i was still going to school ( 1,5 year ago) and now that i am studying it's the same people think hip hop is for children. That's why i think that a Guns and Roses Comeback would be easier in Europe than in the states

PS: All of my friends know the new GN'R although not all of them like GN'R, and even the newspapers do mention them if they are writing about the festival summer or big events in austria
