I think Axl Rose is still relevant today because of his unapologetic view towards his fame and being a rock star.  IMO what continues to fascinate/annoy people about him is:

1.  His chronic lateness.   When it comes to delivering new albums, showing up for concerts, giving interviews, dealing with his fans, etc..  He lives on "Axl Time," the rest of us will just have to wait.  Especially if an NBA finals game is on TV at the time.

2.  He's got brass balls and doesn't give a fuck what we think:  Firing Steven Adler in 1990.  Making fans wait 4 years for "Use Your Illusion" and then releasing the project as 2 seperate CD's on the same day (he originally wanted it to come out as a 4LP box set).

3.  He's still doesn't give a fuck:  Allowing Izzy, Slash, Duff & Matt Sorum to leave.  Carrying on using the name Guns N Roses as the only original member.  Not since Dave Gilmour decided to tour and record as Pink Floyd has such a daring move been made.

4.  He incites riots & doesn't lose a minute's sleep afterwards!  I count four... so far.  St. Louis 91, Montreal 92, Vancouver 02 & Philadelphia 02.  No aplogies from Axl.  He ususually just blames the arena, shoddy security, the police, media or the fans.  And flies back to his mansion in Hollywood before any charges can be filed.

5.  His unpredictability on stage: With Axl live you never know what's gonna happen.  He could walk off stage after 4 songs because he can't hear himself in the PA.  Or he'll threaten or eject fans in the audience for taking his picture, giving him the middle finger or wearing a T shirt he finds offensive.  He might give the best performance you've ever seen or make you wonder why exactly this guy is famous.

6.  His bizarro actions: Hiring a guy with a KFC bucket & mask to play lead guitar.  Using 6 teleprompters on stage to help him remember the lyrics to his songs.  Seeing psychotherapists who look at "past life regression."  Telling the media Slash paid an uninvited  late night visit to his tightly secured mansion in order to bash his Velvet Revolver bandmates from his front lawn.

With Axl it's never boring...

no matter its Thats or That's. the important thing is that everyone here know what she means. you can go teach little kids if you are interested in these kind of things. but stay out of my friends way here.

People need to be educated about grammer. Until we've all learned grammar then we can stop correcting each other.

Think about it, if we don't worry about correct grammar than we all might as well be japanese immigrants.

Thanks for the positive feedback.  How many artists incite riots when they cancel a concert?

Yeah Axl's used teleprompters onstage since the beginning of the Use Your Illusion tours.  I didn't notice until I saw GnR on the MTV Awards in 92.  You could see these screens everywhere on stage with the words to "November Rain" scrolling down.

They are most noticeable in the video of the St. Louis 91 riot show.  When Izzy sings "Dust n Bones" in front of him you can see "There's no logic here today..." printed in big print on the box in front of him.

I guess it's Axl's perfectionist streak.  I know he catches a lot of flack from other artists and critics for using the teleprompters.  People saying he can't remember the lyrics to his own songs.  It seems like if Axl ever forgot the lyrics to any of the songs from Appetite all he'd have to do is look in the audience.  I'm sure the fans are all singing along with him.  Most people have the lyrics to Appetite down cold.

I think at one show Axl forgot the lyrics to You could be mine half way through, and I guess he decided to use teleprompters to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I thaought most bands use them. huh. I know Pearl Jelly does. I think for the most parts Axl likes to just step on them with one leg or both while he's emphasizing a song before jumping off. He just probably figures. "Hey, if i'm gonna jump on these things they might as well be useful and display lyrics." I've never seen him looking at one but he's always jumping off of them.
What this means to me is more than i know you believe."

Axl never fired stevie, slash and duff were mostly behind it. and izzy freaked out because of it. at that time izzy and stevie were good buddies. Axl fought to keep stevie in the band because he wasnt working with him on a day to day basis just to set the facts straight.
