how many people have that good a reason to claim that the new band is that much better than the original lineup?  is it based on a couple leaks?  or can you compare a show that the original did to the new one?  in my opinion only time will be able to tell about these hired guns.  it pisses me off when everyone just assumes that because axl put them together, it will be perfect.  axl is not perfect,  he is after all the man who did my world

I think if you said "who is robin finck" to joe public and "who is Slash" you would soon see that robin is unheard of. In other words, the great musicians are heard of and well known.

Also, the best solo on the leaks was done by Brian May. What does that tell you?

moons

ps. still hope theres no reunion and that the current lineup kicks!!!!

I havn't heard any of the leaks yet so I dunno what CITR, better, IRS or TWAT sound like, and I dont wanna know yet. From what I have heard, I get the impression that you all seem to think that it is very different to what has come out previoulsy.

How do you compare two things that are different? you dont, you just accept it for what it is. Using other music as a benchmark for artisic creativity/achievement doesn't work for me.

yes and if you ask the public to name a great singer they'd probably say christina. In other words simply because the public knows someone or doesnt means absolutely nothing as to how good they are.

Personally, I think peple like snoop dogg, eminem and 50 cent are some of the most untalented 'celebrities' (i dont even consider them to be musicians) that are well known for their image and merchandising potential and not their musical ability. You can go a very long way with hardly any talent nowadays.

The main weakness of this "new" band are the lead guitars. yes they may be good in their own right but Guns have yet to replace slash. I Love the new band but my opinion is that there are only a few guitarist capable of filling slash's shoe in terms of writing ability. Bucket is great and im sure Robin will come good but other than being excellent (bucket) and good(robin) live, i dont think we'll be getting those amazing riffs we are all use to. I hope im proven wrong, i think the leaks are amazing and tommy and fortus are class!!!

mick jagger
freddy merc
malmsteen
led zeppelin and many more

All of whom are way before my time but i still know who they are.

You guys all suck. Instead of dissing the new G N R or saying VR sucks you guys should be kissing their ass. Rock has been dead for YEARS.

Ask Joe Public what rock is now and they say Nickelback. Its' all been dumbed down and commercialised. The last good rock album was Here Come the Brides which sounded like late 80's hard rock. It kicked ass. Their 2nd album sucked. How long ago was it when it was popular to like rock n roll.  G N R, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Whitesnake ruled the charts.

Today they are long gone and the public has no concept of it all. Ok the new G N R and VR sound different but i'd listen to anything over todays shit.

Lets hope Axl can save rock n roll.

because musically speaking, the new band is much more diverse, and can step outside their comfort zone.

and because The Blues and Catcher in the Rye are better than any other song ever

A band that recorded a bluesy hard rock album like Appetite For Destruction, full of energy, releases GNR live, an all acoustic EP as second release. And then, it is followed by a 30 song UYI album, which features a wide array of style, sounds, instruments and tempos, with good composing and playing skills. And you think that band restrained in one style!

Ok you might LOVE axl passionately, but please, at least don't be blind, and don't do injustice to the past.

Adding a few drum samples to the songs don't make them experimental. with the loss of Buckethead, you'll see how "diverse" is new GNR.

And although new songs are superb, They can't beat "the sublime" Estranged or the narration and the depth of Coma.
