Even before the internet there was fucked up people looking for kids, i think all the internet has done is made it easier for them. i have a 14 year old girl who looks like she's 17, even without being dressed up and make up. i dont allow her to have too much make up, mini skirts and low tops are a defo nono. i always know where she is, who she's with etc, etc. she's not allowed to all night parties or to go to clubs and pubs. yet when we are walking down the street, doing something like shopping i notice older men looking at her. although we cant wrap them in cotton wool we have to let go of the apron strings bit by bit, only as much as we think they can handle. my daughter goes to karate because i want her to have that bit of protection. it is the most difficult thing in the world being a parent, i had a real shitty childhood and i've seen things that would freak people out. i swore she would never see those sort of things, and she has'nt but i still understand that she has to have some sort of freedom. although being 14 she does'nt get too much at the minute. she hates the fact that her mates can run the streets day or night but she cant, some of her mates have parents that dont give a shit. i point out to her that i do!! so whether on the internet or the streets, fucked up people are there.

I think that parents should be a little more aware of their childrens lives. When i went to my friends houses as a teenager all of their parents made the effort to get to know me, and im still on first name terms with them now, years later. My parents were not like that and they missed out, but i was well adjusted. There are always plenty of 'latch key children'. I feel its parental responsibility that requires attention, not myspace.

No offence to my parents by the way :)
