While we are on the pedals topic....
« on: July 12, 2006, 12:33:00 PM »
I've been through about 6 or 7 distortion pedals, not liking any of them.  I need some help on picking out one that I'll actually like.  I'm looking for something relatively versatile, nothing thats really one dementional, like the "death metal" pedal I'm stuck with at the moment because I sold everything else.  No digitech please, digitech is shit.  I've just been using my amp which has a black sabbathy sound too it.

I am experiencing the same thing as you.  I haven't had as many as you but I am stuck with my death metal just as you.  I have the metal master, grunge, and deathmetal.  At first i thought these pedals were amazing.  But recently ive heard the boss metal zone and got a chance to play with it alittle bit.  I am inlove with it.  I feel it is much more versital.  I was playing some sabbath one minute, then switched it around and sounded just like slayers raining blood.  Im looking to get it.  However it is very pricey compaired to the deathmetal, where the deathmetal was 50 and then metalzone is 100.  But im sure at some places you can find it cheaper.  But that is what im really looking into to getting.  the boss metal zone.

Get the Krank Distortus Maximus Pedal, I Got that 2 Weeks Ago and it's become a part of me it's that good, when wired up with My Randall V2 Halfstack it just boosts this awesome Tone I Get. My Freinds using the Electro Harmonix Metal Muff, which he says sounds like BLS And Slayer wrapped insid a box.

'MI Audio Crunch box'.

Its basically the sound of a cranked marshall in a box...I want one.

Avoid any pedal that says has the words 'metal' 'death' 'grunge' 'mega' etc.

Why should we avoid any pedal with those words in them?  I feel the Boss Metal Zone is an exceptional one.

I like the support you give to your opinion.      Why does it suck then?

Well if your looking or something thats versatile and has a  great tone...you wont find it in a 'DOD MEGA METAL DISTORTION OF DEATH' for example.

I see no one's taken the "maybe it's your amp" approach so I'll be the scapegoat this time...

Hey maybe it's your amp lol  I know that's lame to say but there is truth to it.  Especially because it sounds like your looking to OD pedals for tone and that tells me you're just not happy with your amp man.  It sounds like you have a real old 60's/70's sounding amp and that it's just not happening for you.
Don't get me wrong, OD pedals aren't necessarily bad but it's the old "you can't polish a turd" theory.  A fantastic OD pedal through a shitty amp (or an amp that just isn't your sound) is still just that.  Obviously money might be an issue but sound really does start with a good amp.
