what you know about Iran?

most of you know, Im from Iran (probably the only iranian GNR fan who knows about newgnr and what's going on in the band).

I'm just curious to know about your knowledge about history of this country, what's going on inside the country these days and etc.

I  can't remember what i was told by an egyptian friend of mine, but it was all cool and very interesting, Iran seemed like a very advanced country for a long time, with a great culture and history ( mesopotamia ..??)

Iran, formerly Persia. Capital City Tehran. I seem to remember the population being about 50 million mostly divided between Kurds and Sunni Muslims (?). Current leader is Mahmood Ahmadenijad who is not popular with the West, especially America because Ahmadenijad was involved in the 1979 Tehran American Embassy seige which lasted for 400 days.

Recently branded a lunatic by Western media because of his outrageous comments regarding Isreal. He is trying to get nuclear energy for his people so they dont want to have to rely on fossil fuels, America doesn't want this so they make up stories about him wanting a nuclear bomb (oh and I forgot to mention that it would be the first Arab nation without massive investment within the US to acquire the nuke, coincidence?)

Lets put it this way, Saudi Arabia isn't gonna blow up the US because it owns a huge percentage of America.

there's also this strange correlation between opec members that deal oil using the EURO not the Dollar as their base currency and countries branded "The Axis Of Evil".

The only thing I know about Iran is they used to hold americans hostage in the 1970s when Jimmy Carter was President. Also in the 80's  I used to smoke really good dope ( I dont do drugs anymore) with some Iranians I knew in las vegas...keekee...Mohammed and Ahmed and we used to really get HIGH....I think Iranians grow good pot.....keekee
