I fell in love with them the summer when I was 13...I stayed up to watch headbangers ball and Welcome to the jungle came on..I was like wow that guy is hot and he can sing.after that I was hooked...My first concert was day on the green in 92 with Metallica and Guns and Roses. I also saw them a few months later at the arco arena.I was pregnant with my son in 93 and I use to play dont cry to him before he was born...I think I might have brainwashed him lol because now at almost 13 he loves gnr and considers them his favorite band.  I dont care who backs axl on stage all I care about is him. He has the best voice.

I gave a reply thinkin' about the new stuff, but if the question is REALLY about the beginning, I first heard GN'R at the end of 88. A friend of mine showed Paradise City for me, he recorded from some radio station - n' the world would never be the same again after those 6 minutes of sound.

By the way, thanks Chris, I owe ya big time 4 this!!!!

am i one of the few really old people who followed them in the 80s/90s?
ive been a massive fan for 20 years now and to a degree im a bit down that the whole gang arent together, tho i like their new stuff and cant wait til its released. Cos lets face it, certainly here in the UK, the rock scene is pretty piss poor.Dominated by sh** POP music.

Saw them in Glasgow last month and Axl still has it!
Nah, I'm old too. Got the grey hair to prove it!  :D

I got into Guns N Roses older work (AFD) in around 1998 or so, and shortly after, I got into UYI. I had no knowledge of a 'new' GNR till a few years later, and I was supportive of a 'new' GNR since I first heard about Chinese Democracy in some video promo online with Buckethead and Axl playing Welcome To The Jungle.

Then when I heard Madagascar, I was hooked.

I liked the old and new versions. As long as the music is good, I'm supportive.

Oh jeepers, I have to think way back now. I bought AFD after the very first time I saw SCOM on MTV. I was hooked because they just seemed different then the other bands out at that time. After the video for PC I started becoming obsessed with them (which I'm sure we all are).

Lies was released and I bought it the day it came out (I think) and I was shocked (almost disapointed) becaude I was expecting a heaver album (the last 4 songs). After listening to it a few times I was totally hooked. I personally like 1 in a million the best of the 4.

Fast foward to UYI being released and all the hype surrounding it. I was in school at the time and I remember sending my grandmother to record theatere to purchase the albums for me so they would be waiting when I got home. Needless to say i got home from school and jammed the new cd's for about 3 years. Some told me that I killed the cd's by playing them all the time but it was an album with great "depth". I cant explain my "depth" other then an album where you favor a few songs for a while, then discover other jems, then others, then others all on the same cd. before you know it every song on the cd rocks and it is a masterpiece.

It was very tough for me to get into the "new" GNR. I knew they were out but I couldnt stomache to listen to them because the singer started a cover band and via the law kept the same name. Auctually I remember seeing a GNR cover band and wondering why the guitarist was wearing a bucket on his head.

Then curiosity set it and I d/l'ed a few DVD's via Dime. I started to get the old GNR itch again. Before I knew it the 2002 tour stopped.

Fast foward to a few years of saying it AXL ever played again at any time or anywhere on the planet I will see him. My day was made when the new leaks were leaked. They were different, didnt have the same sound that made them famous but then I remembered how long it took me to get into UYI.

Then out of nowhere HAMMERSTEIN. I freak out and immediately order tickets, flights and book a room (which was a surprise to my wife until about a week before". We go and they kick ass. (which I saw Izzy)

Now the question would be "is there room for a great rock album or have times changed since AFD, or UYI"? What I mean is that there is a drop in popularity in this sytle music but it is itching to come back. Music goes in cycles (back to the basics, Jim Beam). Look how fast 1 band killed an era and started another (Nirvana).

Well boys and girls it is now 2006 and is it me or do you have the feeling that rock is trying to make a comeback?

How it will end,,,,,,,,,,,,, For those of you old enough Nirvana and grunge changed the music era overnight and there hasnt been a bigger overnight band since,,,, we are due. What I would like to see is GNR playing w/ a few other big 80's bands and release CD. What should have happened was GNR touring with Motley Crue and a good opening band. Will CD be as life changing as AFD?,,,,,,, stay tuned

I hope that it isn't enough of a problem to come between our friendship. I was really getting to like you because you are the least judgemental, most intelligent, vastly experienced person on this forum.

I wish I could be just like you and notch up nearly 4000 replies to a forum in under 6 months. And just think, in that time I have been travelling and learned Russian. But oh boy, you have sure shown me the error of my ways. I would trade all of my life experience for just one moment of your respect.

P.s. Do you have a boyfriend?  ;) xx

yes been a fan since 1993 and yes i have always been supportive and suffered much critisism since but don't give a fuck, i love Guns N Roses and believe in Axl Rose because as people closest to him know- he's fucking brilliant and multitalented.
Fuck you to those who believe all he did was sing. He did he;p write the guitar parts see interviews where Slash describes Axl seaying change this note and hold that one a little longer. AXL was a big part of the music.
What this means to me is more than i know you believe."
