Well then why would Ron jump at the chance to be in Gnr and play Slash and Izzy's music when he could just pursue his solo stuff.
Why? Because he can and because it’s fun. Ron can add this whole new dimension to his career, a dimension where he’s not the one pulling the wagon all the time. Next to this he can maintain his solo career. Sounds like a win/win situation to me. After years of being the spider in the web: producing, playing, singing everything and making up everything that needs to be played and sung, it must be like a vacation to be just one of the guys. This is totally new to Ron.
It's because this is an opportunity to make a bigger and better name amongst the 'fanboys' as you put it and make some proper money.
If you knew Ron well enough you would know that money is the least probable reason for him to join this band along with fame. Again, Ron is driven by fun. If Ron would have cared for fan boy appreciation or dollars he could have had it all a long time ago and way easier than joining the band with the consistent shitty media treatment and the mythical ghost-album.
I dont know much about guitarists but it is plain to see that they are completely different. I see it that when gnr hit the nail on the head all those years ago they became popular for a reason albeit simple.
That still doesn’t make popularity equivalent to quality. Which is the only reason I responded in this thread: somebody felt a need to call Ron a mere apprentice in comparison to Slash (who's main forte compared to Ron is mainstream popularity). I never denied Slash’s importance for GNR. It’s just when I see somebody downsizing one of the greatest virtuosos of the moment in such a manner, when it’s clear they really don’t know anything about the guy they’re putting down, I feel a need to point out the pretty obvious assbackwards-factor.
In my opinion it takes a genius to write the work but a lesser man to recite it.
In my opinion a true genius is also a genius when he’s on his own, with nobody else to rely on. In my opinion it’s a far stretch to call the guy with the critically acclaimed solo albums, full with instrumental and compositional brilliance, lesser. Especially, when he is compared to a guy who hasn’t displayed a fraction of the same musical versatility and who after his departure from GNR never produced the material some people hold him in such high regards for.
Yes. That's exactly why Slash could never perform Ron's work and do justice to it.
Exactly…
I know slipdisc likes to write his essay about Ron (who i think is great ny the way) .
There’s really not much difference between me posting 350 words at once every three days and somebody who posts 14 posts of 50 words, spread over 7 days.
Yeah at the end of the day it all comes down to opinion. But since we're on a message board and not a shout box, one might expect people to give their opinion some backbone. When I see somebody making such a bold claim (apprentice etc), I respect them enough to explain to them decently why I don’t agree, like I would like them to explain that bold claim to me.
Here’s another one who scores a perfect 10 on the assbackwards-meter, going from:
I donno what Ron can do other than hearing a few scratchy clips from the net.
…to:
Styles may be styles, but so far none of the guitarests in any of the new gnr line ups are in Slash's class.
…in 8 sentences. :\
People can have opinions as much as they want, but they should see the absurdity of putting forward such bold statements when it’s obvious they are pretty ignorant towards the topic at hand. Love Slash as much as you like, but do so without downsizing other people’s achievements. Especially when you haven’t explored what those other’s have done.
-PEACE-
Ps.
Excellent post. Unfortunately, it'll probably go in one ear and out the other.
