"Californication" sold over 15 million copies worl

I just want to let you know something:

I heard that "Californication" (RHCP) sold over 15 million copies worldwide. I love RHCP, I think this is a great album but from what we heard (the blues, madagascar, IRS, better, TWAT, Chinese Democracy especially with the new intro and Catcher in the Rye), there is definitely more potential with "Chinese Democracy" than with "Californication". Furthermore, we still haven't heard the studio versions and some other tracks like Prostitute or The general rumoured as amazing tracks.

For those who say that the albums don't sell anymore, this isn't always right: for exemple Norah Jones sold over 30 million albums from 2002 to 2005 with just 2 albums "come away with me" and "feels like home". In fact, great music still gets great sales.

I think the quality is here. All Chinese Democracy needs to be a Monster is... promotion, promotion and promotion.

Don't forget, "Californication" + Norah Jones... think about it.

I cant see it. Trust me i want to. I just dont believe GNR can sell like they use to. Dont get me wrong everyone in the forum is gonna think its the next best thing since slice bread(same here) but i dont think it will do that good.

I agree with you its amazing how well RHCP did with that CD and it is a great CD.

I think GNR are past that type of selling. Maybe im wrong i wish i am!!!

there is an amazingly stark circumstance between "californication" and Chi Dem

rock was still in the mainstream when it came out (true rock that is), the recording industry was doing pretty good, artist integrigty wasn't diminished by record companies telling their artists what to sound like

so if this is gonna get to even a 10 million mark, this has to be an incredible album with major promotion and mostly positive feedback. and in the current state of music and media, unfortunatly none of those are a given even with Gn'R

Gn'R really gotta start promoting soon, like really soon.

i think it will sell very well.
in my opinon califorication sold well because its a good album,
mainstream music was just as shitty now as it was in 99'
and i dont really recall rock being the hip fashion then.

I liked old RHCP, dont own any of their albums. But my 3 favorite songs of theirs are cover songs. Search and Destroy, Roller Coaster, and the best one of all Higher Ground

I'd be almost disappointed if they didn't.. GN'R are a fashion these days, just like The Stones, so they should have mass appeal with teens and have a kinda de ja vu effect on old rockers.. I hope for the sake of music in general Chinese Democracy goes to #1 and stays there...
