great post, blueseattle...may have been the longest post in this forum ive actually read all the way through...
people keep saying sales dont matter...but in the case of gnr (previously the biggest rock band in the world circa 1991)...they do.
if gnr fails to sell big, i will be disappointed...and even if i dont want it to...those results will slightly influence me on how i feel about the album...especially if it is butchered by the critics.
i'll love the album regardless, but no one should be preaching on this forum about how the number of albums sold is meaningless. stop bullshitting yourself.
if they were a no name band, then sure, selling 500,000 records would exceed expectations...but when you're axl rose, the biggest prick in music...the man the critics love to hate...your album hyped to the highest point ...you better deliver.
