great post, blueseattle...may have been the longest post in this forum ive actually read all the way through...

people keep saying sales dont matter...but in the case of gnr (previously the biggest rock band in the world circa 1991)...they do.

if gnr fails to sell big, i will be disappointed...and even if i dont want it to...those results will slightly influence me on how i feel about the album...especially if it is butchered by the critics.

i'll love the album regardless, but no one should be preaching on this forum about how the number of albums sold is meaningless.  stop bullshitting yourself.

if they were a no name band, then sure, selling 500,000 records would exceed expectations...but when you're axl rose, the biggest prick in music...the man the critics love to hate...your album hyped to the highest point ...you better deliver.

I could care less if it sells 1000 copies, as long as i like it.  The only thing sales help with is promotion of an album to people who wouldn't otherwise buy it.  The only reason we need high sales is too pad axl's ego and make sure he doesn't go into hiding again.

It would mean far more for this album to get strong sales and a huge sell out tour, than it would for very strong sales and an average tour.

The important thing is that people hear the music, hear that it's good, and start talking about GnR again.

If CD is as good as it should be, it'll still be selling in 20-30 years time.

Remember CD is part of a 3 'album plan' that seems to be going on. I guess they are going to have huge tours and really push to make GnR the biggest band on the planet again.

Being on magazine covers, or having people talk about you means far more than being top of the album charts.

if u get CD on march 6th u better not listen to it many times... cause than ur gonna get tired of it and then u have to wait another 10 years crying for a new GNR cd...
