What if YOU were appointed new GN'R manager
« on: January 24, 2007, 08:24:37 PM »
We - GN'R fans, all seem to agree Merck's strategy hasn't quite worked out the way he thought it might, although it is inconceivable to even start thinking what good he saw in all this secrecy bullshit. Well, except for the fact it might have been a good tool for a time, building up a momentum but at some point you have to speak to get things rolling. So my question is: as of 2007, if you were to take his place, and assuming Axl was willing to cooperate and let you direct his sail, what would your strategy be to bring the band back to superstardom, how would you promote them, what demographics and media outlets would you target, how would you organise the tour...

Having a straight line ... but mainly based on the sources, that direct the ship through actual circumstances, which are the right guideline, if understood and used properly.

Shortly spoken:

Not looking for the effected fate, but looking for what effects the fate. That contains nearly everything, no, not nearly: everything.

Edit:

The most important thing is of course: CREATING Good Music =)

- Return to 2 guitar players: Finck and Fortus.
- Promote the new guys, stop the "all about Axl" official policy. Make the new guys popular. Put some light on them.
- Individual profiles of each bandmember on the official website, not only about Axl
- Promote heavily the album and the band
- Contact the Press/Media to make bandmembers interviews, like a normal Rock band. Everybody should be allowed to speak and give interviews. Stop the "Axl + a bunch of hired guys" offcial communication.
- IRS or Better as a 1st single (with a new intro for "better" of course), with of acourse a Video.
- release this 1st single on i-tunes as well.
- Negociate a worldwide bradcasted TV/internet GN'R show like the Paris'92 show
- Release a Live DVD, with interviews of the bandmembers and a making-off Chinese Democracy and backstage Tour footages.

Well, I would be doing marketing, marketing and more marketing:
Before the rehearsal, I would contact a cool, well-known brand like Adidas, Nike, Coca-Cola, or some car brand like Audi, BMW... and would offer to use an unreleased song  (from CD, of course) in their ads almost for free (it would be publicity for the band, too).
Also, I would force all the members of the band to go and make interviews both in TV and on the press (not rubbish media, of course).
And I would hire space ads on TV to announce both the shows and the rehearsal. And finally, yes, I would make the band and the music company arrange an official date for the rehearsal.
Wait, this more of marketing than of management.

Save the money - why throw it out of the window?

You can start a huge fire with just a spark! This is like a domino-effect, starting with only one TOUCH ...

The result will be a 'SEEMINGLY COMING OUT OF NOWHERE' ... Fits perfectly on GNR.
