"Better": why the change in the middle?
« on: January 27, 2007, 11:24:48 AM »
Of course, we all heard the first leaked version of Better and I've watched several shows where Guns have altered the middle of the song and Axl has altered the lyrics.  Now, I think he does a good job belting out the "I never wanted you to be so full of anger..." lines.  They sound awesome, but IMO, out of place.  I thought the "Better" leak demo had some mainstream appeal and it sounded great.  Sure, improvements could be made to anything, but IMO, if the Rock Am Ring version is what goes on CD, its a bad move by Guns.  I think they should stick to something closer to the demo.  Also, the last verse is not as strong as the first demo lyrically.  Mostly, I think the live version suffers due to the vastly different direction the music takes during Axl's interlude there in the middle.  It just seems out of place.

I don't like that much the demo. It's better live, but still not that great.
This song sounds too "metal", and the intro is really weird. In term of "rockers" I prefer much, much more IRS (genius). Chinese democracy (with the new intro) is also awesome.
There are too many weak points on Better: the intro + the shred + the "metal" aspect of the song + the non linear structure of the song. It's like a puzzle, a song in difference pieces and there is a lack of structure in the song. The shred solos are out of place, they shouldn't be there. They don't fit. You can love a part (for exemple I LOVE the last part, with Finck's guitar outro and the vocal lines, it sounds awesome) and then hate the other one a few seconds later. You know, the structure is there is no structure. It's kinda weird, I don't know.

The 1st single should be a good Classic-Rock song with the Classic-Rock sound. Something the old fans would recognize into it. An appeal to the mass and to everybody.

Wow...

You have one of the most linear and narrow minded opinions of music I've ever come across....

"better" is my least favourite new tune.... I have the right to think so haven't i?
Some people hate IRS while I think it's one of the best Rock song i've ever heard, and I don't insult them for that. Everybody has different tastes.

It's not your opinion itself that people have a problem with, it's the stupid bullshit you use to justify it.

So yeah, Nesquick isn't the sharpest knife in the draw... or in a spoon factory for that matter, but moving on...

What changed in Better exactly?
I wouldn't want anyone fucking in my yard

You insult people who like shred on a daily, nay, an hourly basis and display severely biased attitudes towards anythng that deviates musically from your personal perception of what's good.
