 People keep saying this is some reference to John Lennon but Axl is not that simple! He is a genius at writing intricate metaphoric lyrics with some heart to it and this song is obviously have to do with Rape no doubt about it,

Sometimes when I see his face I wish I had a gun? Basically reverting back to some memories as a child and trying to put that picture out of his head. I guarantee whatever Catcher may be labeled it is truly in Axl's mind a song about RAPE!

Read about J.D. Salinger who wrote catcher in the rye.  he's a famous recluse and hasn't even given an interview since 1980 or published a new work since 1965.  you might see some parallels between him an axl.  maybe not, just a thought.

well this along with the ending of Rocket Queen is the best verse I've ever heard, but you can see that it does kind of say that Axl's mom didn't want to help him, or wasn't there for him. Also that he didn't want to remember this day, and it haunts him everyday.

 Sorry man you have to think outside your box, go get the book called ''The band time forgot'' and in Axl's own words says he was raped as a child! Catcher in The Rye is no doubt about being felt abandoned and Raped, don't compare it to the book with that title ok, this is Axl's own mind and lyrics making references to that terrible experience, listen to Sweet Child O Mine, he A warm, safe place as a child I ''HIDE'' and pray for the thunder and rain to ''QUIETLY'' pass me by. understand?? His lyrics are so deep! A true fan will understand although SCOM was about Erin Everly it also had references of Axl's terrible childhood, Axl even said that  alot of his songs and lyrics will have several meanings in it, therefore they are not flat and he will metaphorically deliver messages of frustration and anger even in a sweet, nice song that is the brilliance of this man to make something so positive turn ugly or ugly turn positive.
