There is most certainly a context in songwriting -

• There is a historical context, I doubt even you will suggest bands and their works are ignorant of what's going on around them
• There is the literal context - all songs have a literal speaker and either events that occur to them or things they describe... and these are included in the work FOR A REASON
• There is the 'textual' context - the artist makes choices of words and metaphors to guide us towards how they intend us to receive the literal context.... describing the imagination as a fire certainly applies an INTENTionally different connotation from describing it as a wing

The reason why ongs have many meanings is because the meaning of the words may evolve in time for everybody, including the author of the lyrics. And sometimes, one will check back on their own lyrics they wrote (sometimes in an almost "automatic writting" fashion) and think that is was almost a self-prophecy or just basically find a new meaning, on a completely other level than the first one....
Kinda like when you listen to a song as a kid, then as a teenager than as an adult, the meaning of the song will change overtime because it will be colored by the things and events you experience through your life...[/list]

I think there might be some reference to the book, seeing as how the line "How a body took the body" is strikingly similar to a quote in the book in which the main character misinterprets a Robert Burns poem, thinking the quote goes: "“If a body catch a body comin’ through the rye,” but the actual lyric is “If a body meet a body, coming through the rye.”

Just thought that sounded similar. Perhaps some influence to the song but I'm certain the song has a completely different meaning as well.
