Velvet is more GNR than GNR
« on: April 14, 2007, 02:17:10 PM »
just wanted to generate some response.

my thoughts and opinions have changed dramatically over the past few weeks towards "guns n roses."

im pretty much at the point now where i'm no longer comfortable calling them that anymore.  guns n roses is Axl, Slash, Duff, Izzy, Adler, and even Dizzy & Sorum.  And it goes in that order if u ask me.  The new band is brilliant.  Anyone who's heard the leaks should agree to some extent.  But it's no more Guns n Roses than Velvet Revolver is.

I'm tired of my own people (GNR fans) who have lashed out @ VR since they started playing music again simply because theyre not associated closely w/ Axl anymore.  F That.  I love Axl, but lets be fair.  VR has 2 original members of GNR, as well as Sorum, who is just as much a part of the band b/c of his work on UYI.  Axl has himself, and Dizzy.  Axl owns the name GUNS N ROSES.  Sounds like a monopoly to me.

On a side note- someone enlighten me please.  Dizzy's band Hookers & Blow play cover songs?  Did i hear correctly from that radio interview thing from last winter?  They cover GNR songs (and more)????  Why the F would your make a side project of a band covering your real band's songs????  Why not just get your REAL band together to play live????????????  :retard: :retard: :retard: :retard: :retard: :retard:

Eagles of Death Metal
- I saw the YouTube interview about them getting kicked off the tour.  I listened to a few songs of theirs too on Myspace.  theyre ok.  but not my style.  However, it was REAL MATURE of Axl to kick them off the tour after 1 night PUBLICLY ON-STAGE in front of the entire crowd, because he wanted to play King Dick for the night.  What a low thing to do.  I bet it made you feel like the coolest kid in school for a day, Axl.  I'm ashamed to say I used to call this guy my idol growing up as a kid.

CHINESE DEMOCRACY-  If it ever comes out.  I think the album will be good, and get an overall mixed review, and hopefully will be good for some decent radio play.  The band has worked hard on the record, and it deserves to be heard and recognized.  We're way past that point.  We all know who's responsible for holding the record back all these years.  Mr. Corn Rows himself.  BTW, I'm finished waiting for the record too.  I have a few leaks, theyre great.  I think it's awesome & I cant wait to hear it.  But after March 6, much like everyone else, I gave up on waiting.  And I'm also tired of sticking up for Axl, which i will no longer do.  Let the record speak for itself.

Oh and one last thing- GNR get the award for All-Time Neglecting Your Fans.  Way to go for NEVER updating your website, or Myspace, or Blog, or anything else.  All we ever get is Bumblefoot's blog (God Bless the guy, I hope he doesnt become corrupted by the evil he's surrounded by now), Dizzy's stoned-off-his-ass "i wont talk about Chinese Democracy, but I'll blow u off with this half-ass remark" comments, and more delays from "Management."  It reminds me of working for a Burger King fast food chain.  Little signs posted all around, signed, "-Management," who in reality is a few corporate A**holes who never even acknowledge your name.

Thank God for CD.com, because otherwise, I wouldn't give two sh*ts about GNR right now, and since 2002.

Guns N' Roses is dead.  It was a painfully slow death.

We, fans are all that's left of Axl Rose.  He needs to realize that.

I saw both bands, and all I want to say is that when VR played "it's so easy", there was a MUCH bigger Guns N' Roses feeling to it than when the newGN'R played it.
You can't beat Slash guitar's tone + Duff Bass's tone + 2 Guitar players on that one. This is just how this song should sound.

I enjoyed both shows though, but yeah, the VR show was more of a real band show with the right Guns N' Roses vibe to it than the newGN'R show (more "professional", good of course, but just different)

Maybe, but if C.D. is a large hit, everything you said means nothing.

i hear more people say that the leaks already sound better than anything VR have put out. I like both bands, in 2002 i didnt really consider them GNR, but now I feel they are more of a band maybe b/c of their look, i dont know. But from some of bootlegs of the shows, I hear better versions of the songs than the old did

Its so easy and Mr. Brownstone are played more GNR by Velvet than GNR... YES.  When I saw it, the crowd response was unlike anything I've felt.  But that magic was lost durring the rest of Velvets set for me.  You can't replace Duff and Slash and have it sound like Duff and Slash,  and 'I hate to say it' even Sorum at some level.

But there is no matching Axl's Frontman abilities for me, even at his age now, and the presence he carries with him.

Seen VR play Brownstone and Its So Easy. It sounded fantastic for me just like the old days but Weiland performed well on Easy then fucked up Brownstone real bad when i saw em. New GNR do it just as good as the old band for me and sometimes maybe even better.

I'm with you on this!
Of course, I would like to hear Axl by that but ...  :smirk: the vibes are more impotant (only my opinion)

Ok the first post mean shit to me.....Yes they are not GNR, but grow up. Things changed now, I dont like VR cause SW thats it. Yeah I love Slash and Duff.  FUCK MATT, but things happend that way, so fuck it. I will stay behind Axl voice and heÂs image, and heÂs talent. This fucking debate of old GNR or new , or  they are not GNR ....fuck..... when CD gets release and if it get the chance to be a damm good album wich has all the chance.... people will forget this fucking discution, and focus on the GNR now.

Do you truly beleive that Axl wants a reunion????? don dream.... heÂs having a great time with this new line up. He carried on, when he fucked up and destroy the band, but the others original members where not exactly angels you know, they wanted a different style of music for GNR, Axl didnt.

VR is a good band. In fact is GNR without Axl, and if you asked me YES the leaks touch me more than anyother VR song. Cause thereÂs only one person who can write those lyrics and thats Axl, thats why I pick this new GNR band, besides I already get used to Robin, Richard, Tommy. Ron,  they are good. As soon as they make their own music, and stop playing old songs. This dabate will continue.

And that its my opinion.
Peace

The VR song that really did it for me was "Set Me Free"  I had a lot of hope when I heard that.  It was aggressive and I liked it.  Nothing else really did 'much' for me, but it was ok.

While I think IRS is  repetitive, and uninteresting... The rest of the new stuff does touch me in a special way and I like it.

WTF?

Ive seen both bands live. GNR blew VR the FUCK out of the water. Yeah it was badass when VR played Mr Brownstone and Its So Easy...but Scott Weiland is no Axl Rose, and thats what made the different. Axl can outsing Scott anyday of his life. New Gnr sounds infinitely better than VR live with or without Slash.

This is completely pointless. Nothing that we haven't gone over a trillions times already.

Yes, I'd prefer it if Axl would have  made this his solo project (like say David Lee Roth did when he left Van Halen) and then a few years down the line when Axl's solo band and VR have burned out, GnR could get back together for a few shows.

But that didn't happen. It is how it is and there's no point in moaning about how this band isn't GnR because it's the most tired and boring subject you could possibly bring up. We're not gonna change the past.

Accept how things are and move on.
