Avatar was rly pretty, but story was shit.  Like we all didn't see him actually changing from Human into a blue thing coming the whole time, so predictable.  we all knew the good aliens would kill all the humans and he'd live happily ever after with the blue chick

Really enjoyed Avatar.

Amazingly directed, Cameron knows how to keep the audience focused during some crazy action.
Michael Bay wishes he could film action movies like he can. Slow motion was brilliant to this effect, not only was
it silky smooth, but allowed you to take in the world/characters/and action so no one was lost.

And the story is simple on it's surface, but I think you guys are being way too cynical. First off because "theres nothing new under the sun".
If you think a movie is "new" then chances are you haven't seen the 5 movies it's "ripping off". Secondly because it has some really powerful moments and it's ridiculous to sweep those under the rug. The scene between Neytiri (the blue chick) and her father giving his bow to her was one. Also visually speaking I thought that seeing the city burn like that was powerful.

And flop? Hardly. It's one of the biggest openings of all time and hasn't even opened in China or Japan!

Goodbye, Blue Sky......... Goodbye.

Indeed, a blind, paralysed quadriplegic with no previous mopping experience could wipe the floor with Michael Bay quite easily.  He should be arrested for war crimes or something.

Although i've heard pretty terrible things about Avatar, except that it 'looks phenomenal', which is great and all, but then Dolls by Takeshi Kitano looked phenomenal and it was atrocious as well.

surely the "it looks really cool" line is the one most frequently trotted out regarding bay films.

That and 'did you hear how loud the explosions were'...

Great film-making there, Michael.

If I ever have to witness that stupid car chase across a bridge followed by slow motion shot of a rolling car/truck/blimp bouncing over someone's head before he cuts to the helicopter camera to do a 360 pan around the aftermath that he manages to ram into every movie he makes again I'm going to go to Hollywood with a hunting knife and disembowel him in super slow-mo.

Ok I was at work and didnt have time to post what I wanted

Anyway, you should really check Avatar out, as its very much a 'big screen event film'. The Empire review said it best in that as a film its worth 4 stars (out of 5), but in 3d it becomes a 5 star experiance. Visually it really is incredible, with the motion capture preformances really being the standout.
The planet Pandora is incredible, and truly feels like a living, breathing ecosystem. The scenes in the jungle early on in the film are breath taking.
Story wise, its really just 'Dances with Wolves' redone. The preformances are all fine (Sigourney Weaver is always great), and the script is generally alright (it does go slight 'hippy tree hugging' midway through).

So yes, go and see it, and in 3d if you can.

The only way you should see avatar is in the cinema as without the 3d effects or big screen dramatics and sound. Everything else is pretty average mainly the poor storyline and take on the ethical world would be better off withoyt us storyline. Not very original for the past few years i guess thats where it went wrong as it took him 10 years to releas due to insufficient technology. The world of pandora is just a poor cameron wanting to make a star wars style world that is so brilliant. Yet other than graphics the ideas arent brilliant. If you like this sort of story about a dying/dead world watch wall-e instead may not be the current release nor trying to show off in 3d to cover up the bad stories but it is actually good.

I saw Sherlock Holmes last night. Amazing. Much better than I thought it would have been. They kept many traditional things about him, and only changed a few things. Being a major fan of the books I was skeptical at best about this film. But as he says in A Study In Scarlet, it's best not to muddle things up before hand by coming to conclusions before all facts have been presented. So, I gave it a chance and thought it was done quite well. RDJ was very good and entertaining, as was Jude Law. It was funny, and the story was done quite well, they certainly did not take the easy way out. I'm sure a second one will be made, not only by the ending, but by the positve response at the box office.

7/10

The cinematogrpahy style would perfectly suit the video game Assassins Creed. Anyone else agree?
