The Rolling stone trashes the leaks
« on: May 08, 2007, 02:05:27 PM »
http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2007/05/08/leaked-guns-n-roses-chinese-democracy-tracks-make-us-long-for-whiskey-slash/

In the last few days five songs from Guns N’ Roses long-awaited albatross of an album, Chinese Democracy, have leaked. Right now “The Blues,” “IRS,” “Madagascar,” “There Was a Time,” and “Chinese Democracy” are all totally available. The good news is that listening to them brings on the thrill of doing something naughty. The bad news is that the songs mostly suck. “Chinese Democracy” tries waaaay too hard to rock and retains none of that effortless, dirty looseness we need from G N’ R. “There Was a Time” is a busy almost-ballad. “The Blues” is “November Rain,” the musical. And while we kinda like the unabashed brawn of “IRS,” it features Axl hawking really bad lyrics he knows are “lyrics.”

We’re assuming “Madagascar” (song five on the leaked list) will show up tomorrow, but in the meantime it’s available on file sharing sites. Perhaps it will redeem the rest? [via MetalSucks]

well that article is misleading.  the Madagascar leak has been out for 2 months now, and is from 2002 not from the current batch of leaks.

Seems to be some asfrap special reporter aka some mod from some random vr fansite reviewing the leaks, seeing that last year they praised them all and they were all going "Come on Axl, release the damn album already, it's better than anything VR could put out".

Let it put me like this: The Rolling Stone is a "has been good" magazine. The Stone was all about 60s and 70s music and opinions and Hunter Thompson of course. All three things are gone today. The Stone is noting more than a relict trying to be hip - in fact the same thing they're degrading new gnr to be. There are better ways for killing time  :D

Oh boy oh boy, do I live for days like today. Three brand spankin’ new studio-quality tracks from the perpetually in-the-works Axl Rose/ Guns N’ Roses comeback album Chinese Democracy have leaked, and your good friends Axl and Vince will be sharing them with you over the course of the next three days.

First up: the title track. It would logically seem that this is the song intended to open the album: the extended, moody build-up with the people whispering in Chinese, those first sweet, fuzz covered licks that Robin Finck teases us with, Axl’s sudden scream, and then an EXPLOSION of rock. Like the “Madagascar” track that leaked earlier this year, it would seem that Axl’s vocals still need some work, but otherwise, man, does this song (which the band has already been playing live since 2001) kick some major ass. It’s like some super-sick hybrid of GN’R and White Zombie: industrialized hard rock with just the right amount of tasty grooves to remind us why we always loved Axl in the first place. Finck and Buckethead trade off during the solo, with Finck supplying the sustain-heavy first half and BH going all Tom Morello on our asses for the big finish. The completed version should be KILLER.

Everyone seems to be getting confused.  There was no Maddy leak with this past weekends leaks.  The Maddy leak came several weeks ago and is obviously from before the 06 tour.  Most likely from the 2002 promo cd.
