Finck's Solo in the Blues
« on: May 09, 2007, 12:49:56 AM »
Anyone else think Finck's solo in the blues is just annoyingly choppy? I've played guitar for years and I know that the cutoff style of playing is favoured by many musicians and I personally use a bit of it myself but I think Finck takes it to far. The cutoffs in his solo in The Blues really take away the beauty of it. If slash were to record a solo for The Blues it would certainly sound beautiful.

No, Slash would ruin it like almost every Contraband's solo.

Robin's solo is like this. Maybe you're too attached to some conventional playing because you're a guitarist. I am too, for almost 12 years, but IMO it sounds fitting. The only thing I didn't like was the very end: he hits the note one more time in the demo, while he just bends it live. I prefer the live version anytime.

Slash is a much better soloist than all the new GnR guitarists. His solos are always very fitting to the song and very passionate. Slash makes solos you remember after you hear them, he would certainly make a great solo for The Blues. Not fair to use Contraband as an example, the style is very different from old GnR, and I'm talking about Slash from the old GnR days. Now thats fucking soloing!

I'm usually very tolerant of abstract guitar playing, I use some of it myself but I just think for the song it does not sound well. It sounds horrendous at that one specific part.

Matter of opinion. Robin certainly has solos that you remember after you hear them. Just listen to The Blues, Better, Chinese, TWAT...

Sounds good to me, but I wish it could be more like the live version for the reason I said before.

Yes, but Slash hasn't been Slash since 199-fucking-3.

Slash has sucked horse penis ever since he lost the guidance of Axl and/or Izzy. He has no clue what he's doing when there's nobody giving him orders..

At least Robin does his own thing, and does it fucking well!

Can't say I agree.  Robin's solo is full of emotion and has a very unique feel that I think fits the song perfectly.  I think Robin's done an admirable job on the solos, his solos on TWAT, Better and The Blues are excellent IMO.  Of course on TWAT he gets his thunder stolen by that amazing Buckethead outro but still, he's done a good job even though his style is unconventional

yes, he makes solos with passion. like all contraband's solos.
maybe he has noone to help him anymore. maybe he hasn't Izzy to help him, or even Axl. who knows?

well, are you all talking about his first solo that starts 2:16 ? if yes, it's fucking amazing, fucking awesome. if yes, i just can't believe you all said that.

Slash and Izzy wrote a lot of GnRs songs. Slash wasn't bossed around. what your saying is bullshit. The only reason Contraband sucks is because of Weiland, not very compatible with the gunners.

dont tell me to get over it. this is a DAMN FORUM. People discuss things and Im discussing how I find that certain part of the solo annoying. Don't make smart ass comments like that. You contribute nothing to this thread.
