the price of gas is dictated by demand.  there's nothing we can do about it.  sure it leads to oil companies turning record profits, but thats the nature of capitalism.  high oil and resource prices are driving the Canadian Economy right now.  Our dollar is higher against the U.S. dollar than its been since 1977, and may surpass the U.S. dollar soon.  In North America prices will stay high for a while and then stabilize once new refineries are completed, right now in Canada and the U.S. they are starting to build their first ones since the 70s.  In the long run it is better for oil companies to have lower prices with room for extra capacity.  Anyways, as someone in the Oil Industry I don't mind paying a bit more for gas, I'm also enjoying a record high salary. :D

also, the mods do need to cleanup the Green Room, its gone to shit.  most of the threads in here should be in the garden

That's the contradictory part, you've just blanket labelled all current members of the Republican party as being willing to lie, cheat and kill to advance their own careers and fortunes.  There were Republicans that opposed the Iraq war too y'know, just as there were Democrats who supported it

I am sure there are some moderates within the republican party. They are still scum but they are there!

However the far-right hard-liners known as the neo-cons should all be shot. How is that contradictory?!

So when I write the neo-cons should be shot, you took it as all republicans, which is not what I wrote. Please dont try and twist my words.

Yeah I'm sure there were democrats who wanted war, I'll admit that I got caught up in the whole we need war idea but that is because we were being given false intel by the neo-con administration about WMD's when all they wanted was oil.

y'see, you didn't really in your first post, it was in your clarification post when you said...

The neo-cons (ie the post 2000 Republican Party) have lied, cheated, murdered

whether it was meant as a balnket statement or not, what you said did actually label anyone involved with the Republican party since 2000 as a neo-con and from what I know of syllogisms, if all A's are B's and all B's are C's, it follows that all A's are C's and therefore you perhaps inadvertantly advocated lining all Republicans up against a wall to be shot for being murdering, lying cheats.

God, don't they teach logic at schools any more... (sorry, I know you're a couple of years older than me and everything, I've just always wanted an excuse to use the 'what do they teach kids these days?' rant)

This is funny

Couple breach Downing St security

The gates were installed during the IRA's bombing campaign
A couple managed to bypass security measures and walk straight into Downing Street, it has emerged.
Obadiah Marius, 44, and his girlfriend walked through a government building on neighbouring Whitehall without being checked, a No 10 spokesman confirmed.

The route allowed them to avoid the wrought iron gates installed to protect the prime minister from bombers.

Mr Marius was charged by police but his girlfriend was released. His lawyers say he made a "genuine mistake".

Restricted area

Visitors to Downing Street are normally subjected to security measures including checks on identity and screening with airport-style scanners.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when Mr Marius and his partner walked into 70 Whitehall, which houses the Cabinet Office.

The pair found themselves at the rear of the building, which backs on to Downing Street, without being challenged.

They had circumnavigated the gates installed by Margaret Thatcher to thwart terrorists during the IRA bombing campaign in the 1980s.

The pair were arrested under the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act.

Mr Marius, from east London, appeared before magistrates on Thursday.

A government spokesman confirmed the pair had been detained in Downing Street, but said they had not gained access to No 10 itself or got anywhere near the prime minister's office.
