Songs on CD that Buckethead wrote
« on: May 31, 2007, 07:53:20 PM »
Out of all the songs we've heard, pretty much everything was written in its original form prior to Buckethead arriving.  IRS, CD, TWAT, and Catcher and for that matter Oh My God were all recorded in some form before Buckethead had a chance to have creative input in the writing process.  Madagascar may have been recorded before he joined the band, it seems like it's mainly written by Axl-Dizzy-Pitman though Buckethead's guitars are prominent too.  The only song surely recorded after Buckethead had joined the band that we've heard is Better, and apparently the music was mainly written by Robin.

Bucket obviously has impacted all of these songs with his input.  But what about songs he actually wrote?  There are a lot of possibilities from really aggressive and heavy to psychadelic, ambient stuff that Axl could really shine on vocally and lyrically.  I'm hoping that some of this stuff makes it onto the record.  Basically everyone in the band outside of Axl has said Bucket will be on the album, and Axl seemed to hint at it by thanking Buckethead for his contributions to the album after he had left the band, it doesn't seem like he has been particularly bitter about it nor do the rest of the guys in the band

It would be a great tragedy if bucket's work wasn't on the album

You talk about Buckethead as much as anyone, even though it's always a complaint.

Your point about him leaving 3 years ago might have some significance if the album had already come out.  Your comment would be a lot less hypocritical if you didn't mention how much you wish Slash would come back, when Slash left the band in over 10 years ago, will never rejoin the band, and every single bit of writing and recording he's done or ever will do for Guns N' Roses has already been released.  Since CD hasn't come out and so far we've only heard one song that was originally written post-2000, there's plenty to speculate about.

I think Bucket really influenced There Was A Time as his guitar parts are still in it

In a lot of ways he made the song.  His solo is that good.  And he also contributed noticeable guitars during the song in the verses.  But he didn't really write the song.  There was a 1999 demo floating around that didn't have Buckethead on it, it was still a good song but not nearly as strong as with Buckethead's guitarwork

Now if he can impact a song that much that was basically written before he got there imagine how good some of the songs he actually had a hand in writing from the beginning might be.

There is writing a song, and then there is writing to a song. By the time that buckethead joined the band I'm sure they had written ll the songs that they planned on having on CD. The only thing anyone could do at that point was add to the song and/or give it their input. Buckethead was also around during their earlier touring, which makes it more likely that he didn't participate in heavy song writing.

Theres only a small portion of buckethead in the There was a Time Solo.

For Nesquick.. I hate your guts you pansy motherfucker..

Buckethead will impact Chinese Democracy more than our true messiah, Richard Fortus, that is for sure.

i kinda feel stupid throwing down my ideas and thoughts about buckethead, because it is a touchy situation and you have to have great guitar knowlege to realy have a true believable opion on the mater.

but i think Buckethead is a great guitar player and that his TWAT solo and solo work prove it. I believe he'll be featured probably 3/4 of the time on Chinese Democracy, the other quater being Ron.

but as far as song writing is concerned, im lead to believe almost all of the songs were mainly written by Axl with a little assistence from Mother Goose and Dizzy and maybe Robin.

so his work should be on CD! Listen to the demos of TWAT, CD and the masterful quick riffs of Better.

Oh and isnt it said his guitar work on Leave Me Alone is amazing. Paul B said that in 2003.
We'll all have Chinese Democracy.

And Pie.

Theres only a small portion of buckethead in the There was a Time Solo.

Buckethead plays the entire TWAT outro solo, from around 4:25 through around 5:50.  It's easy to tell by the style and the tone, Bucket's style of playing is really distinct.  It's also easy to tell because there's a version from 1999 out there where the outro solo isn't there at all, ditto IRS, neither of them have Buckethead's solos on them so it's easy to tell, apart from his distinct style, what he added to those two songs in particular.  Finally, on all the other new songs they do live, Ron plays Buckethead's solos.  And when they did TWAT live, Ron played the outro solo.  If it was Robin or Fortus's solo, they would play it live, not Ron

Also, when Rolling Stone had their listening section in 2000 they specifically mentioned TWAT, IRS, Catcher, and The Blues by name, so those songs had already been written by then.  However, we know that Better was written after Buckethead joined the band.  Bucket was in the band from early 2000-early 2004, I refuse to believe that the only work they got done during that timeframe was retooling songs that were written in 1998 and 1999.  They were creating new material, but we've only heard one song from that era which is Better

No need for name calling. Anyway, It doesn't sound like buckethead in the beginning of the solo. And honestly the guitar tone changes a lot so there are obviously multiple tracks comprising the solo, and a lot of them ,especially the ones with heavy effects, could have easily been recorded by any of the guitarists. There are only certain parts where it really sounds blatanly like buckethead.

IMO, Bumblefoot should re-record BH's parts.

Not to say BH isnt a great guitarist or anything, but he quit 3 years ago.

Bumblefoot is in the band now, he is the here and now and he should be given the chance to shine.
The only reason Finck is still in GnR is because Axl hasn't seen me play yet.
