amp
« on: July 05, 2007, 06:09:48 PM »
k, so if everything goes alright i'm getting an Epi Lp Standard.
so i need an amp for it now. looks like i can get amps with 40-60% discount, but still, please try to keep the prices at a normal range... so i'm looking for a marshall. first of, i've got no idea about amps. i know i want distortion, and to have it sound like an accoustic guitar, or about the same sound that jimmy page gets on stairway to heaven. and i think 30 watts should be enough.

i've gotten this far: http://www.marshallamps.com/product_overview.asp
then i'm stuck  :paranoid:
oh, and i wanna play blues and rock. maybe some maiden or sabbath here and there, but mostly blues and rock.
please help, thx!

DSL401 is the best you're gonna get unless you wanna spend more.

Everything below it is cheap and nasty.

Cheap:

MG = Bad

AVT = Bad

Expensive:

DSL = Very Good

TSL = Good

JVM = Very Good

i can't find it at a local retail store (on the internet). whats the price of one of those where you live? i know its not the same here as in the us, but at least i get a feeling of how much it should cost me.

Because marshall is cheapest in the UK than anywhere else (I think, anyway) you can get them here new for £389 (www.gak.co.uk) I've only had a short time hearing a DSL401, but from what i've heard they sound pretty decent. Though i've heard many people say they sound a bit fizzy at low volumes so you may want a change a speaker.

i'm really open to any good amps.
my teacher told me its better to get a good amp, then get a bad one and then change it.
does the AD15V have the stairway sound and distortion in it?

thats a 15 watt amp though. i need something like a 30 watt or 40. i need to use it at home, and when we form a band next year and preforming i need to use that too. my friend who is gonna be lead guitarist has a 40 watt marshall

well not sure, I've listened to stairway just a couple of times,
but yeah you can choose a vintage sound and dunno if a delay or a chorus effect can help you

Well, put it this way. An AD15VT is a close as you're gonna get for the money an AD15VT costs.

You can't just buy a cheap amp and expect it to sound as good as some priceless vintage gear on x or y song.

i want it to sound clear, like an accoustic guitar.
my budget. hm... thats a good one. well it looks like i can get some stuff a lot cheaper cuz i have some connections. but i don't tend to spend more than 50thousand ft's on an amp which is 275 bucks.
but thats with the discount i can get.

As a begginer it's perfect for me, I was planning to buy a marshall or something like that but the guy at the store changed my mind, with the AD I don't need to buy a pedal soon, I can wait, save some money and enjoy some cool effects. He also mentioned something about the difference between a valve amp and a transistor one, don't remember much. Anyway was just a suggestion, if it is on the store try it...
