West Arkeen: Discussion, Appreciation, & Reflection
« on: August 05, 2007, 12:17:28 AM »
I know that this may seem random to some or a decade late to others, but I wanted to bring special attention to GNR's original sixth member, West Arkeen.

For the uninitiated, West helped write hits It's So Easy, Patience, The Garden, Yesterdays, and sadly West died from a drug overdose in 1997.

Let's discuss and bring attention to someone like West whose talent doesn't get enough attention rather than complain (or talk about Del James ).

Don't forget the Outpatience album, damn there are some good songs on there. Those here who have not heard it, track it down. Anxious Disease is one of the best songs guns n roses never wrote....

As far as I know, West didn't have anything to do with the song Back Off Bitch, Paul Tobias did

praising the entourage is like my gf sending the garbageman a thank you note after i blow a huge load on her stomach... i mean sure w/o the garbage man the whole block would smell bad and i wouldn't be able to focus on the task at hand, but he's still the garbage man c'mon

On the Eddie Trunk show last year

Someone asks: How's West Arkeen doing these days?

uncomfortable silence

Axl: Um.  He's not

Fucked up but funny part of the show.  R.I.P. West.

Well Axl doesn't have West Arkeen or Izzy Stradlin to help him with songwriting. No wonder CD is taking so much time.

Well, for all we know, Axl could have only written about 6 songs. He wasted all the time until 2002 trying to go industrial, but that was just a waste. So essentially, he has been writing new material since 2002. If you consider that he is trying to make it perfect and doesnt have a lot of people who helped him write in the past, you may get a reason why it's not out yet.

no he didn't waste his time going ''industrial'' it's only that it was rejected by the label for not sounding like gnr does not gonna make a profit if i was axl i would have fucking gone mad after that rejection

I'm no expert, but from what I understand West was a great friend to the whole Gn'R gang, and personally It's So Easy is one of my favourite songs.  I love crash diet, and although I think Axl is an emotional guy who would probably be reserved about the idea... I would love to see the new guys play crash diet as a dedication to West.  I think it was great for the GnR community to recognise West, it shows that what he did in his life lives on long before his death and I don't think any of us could ask for anything more.

Thanks West

Actually Crash Diet is one of my favourites from GN'R ... it's such a shame it didn't make it for record. And even bigger shame that it was never played live. Anyway, I don't know much about him, but from what I've heard he seems to be a greate guy and of course helped GN'R in many ways.

so thanks West and RIP
