Frank is an awesome drummer, and in my opinion he fits this band a hell of a lot better than brain ever did.  I wouldn't be upset if Brain left, I guess it always seemed inevitable after buckethead left.  I can't judge what he's done on CD, but I feel Frank is more interested in the band and more dedicated than brain ever was, and that is the difference between being a band member and a hired gun.

Example.....

Frank = Steven Adler
Mantia = Matt Sorum

which also means.....

Frank & Steven = fucking amazing cool guys
Brain & Matt = fucking faggot shitty drummers

Matt's style of drumming fucking fitted in GNR, his work on UYI and Spaghetti, let alone live shows, was great. What's up with all you people? Yes, I was upset too that he abandoned Axl along with Duff, but it doesn't (or at least shouldn't) have any influence on his drum style value or appreciation of his technics.

And why couldn't it? No one said it has to sound like AFD or Lies all the time. Besides, it wasn't just Matt's credit. When a band turns into metal a little more, it's not just due to the drummer, it's also guitars and overall feeling. Matt with his play didn't make GNR sound heavier just himself.

no ofcourse not when you make the drums heavier the band actually sounds lighter

Ha ha but take a look at Garden Of Eden, Right next door to hell and others. It's not about drums, is it? Or You're crazy from AFD with Steven - they could play any fuckin' metal they wanted to even before. I don't say that Matt didn't have any impact on their sound but it didn't turn into something different (it wasn't that much different though) just because of him.
And yeah you're right, he was fired.

Anyway, I loved his work in UYI era. Why not heavier sound?

I am definitely for heavier sound, but it has to be compensated with heavier guitars and the rest of the band. it's not that easy. IMHO the most significant part of the sound are guitars - and guitars are fucking heavy on most leaks. but also nicely mellow in some others.

I guess it's not GNR's case but sometimes minimalistic drums make the atmosphere of the song (like this -
- perfect example) - imagine a version of The Blues with similar drums

i agree he sounded pretty good and was more skillfull then steven but he had such a straightforward sound there was no fun just banging as hard as possible (my opinion). the songs he did on usi were fine but when he played songs from appetite it just sounded so far away from the normal sound and like i said pretty boring it's the same problem when brain plays that stuff live

Well, I just think that he played great. If you listen to the beginning of Back off bitch, he's doing quite a brilliant although non-violent drumming piece of work and I honestly can't imagine Steven playing this (not that he wouldn't make it but he just wouldn't work this up). But yeah, each of them had a special place in the GNR history. On UYI, the band was heavier as a whole, not just drums.
Anyway I know what you mean. But no, it wasn't just beat the shit ouf of it, he has skills and technics.
