After seeing Velvet Revolver last night...
« on: August 22, 2007, 11:29:21 AM »

... And being 10 feet away from Slash, I never realized how much I miss him in GNR.  It was especially hard when they busted out "Patience".  They all brought out stools and Matt Sorum had a mini drum kit set up, reminiscent of 91-93 when the did the mini acoustic set mid show.  Slash playing his Guild acoustic/electric doubleneck and it was one of the best live versions of the song I'd heard in forever.  It was a little weird hearing Scott singing it but I didn't really care.  I was listening to the music.  Later on they did "It's So Easy" and "Brownstone".  Both songs killed.  It was nice to hear the solos actually played the way they're supposed to be played  :slywink:

An unbelivable show.  As a bonus, Alice In Chains opened and they were awesome as well.  I don't plan on seeing the newest incarnation of GNR again.  I've seen them twice and it was nice to get home at a reasonable hour.  There just isn't a point.  Flame me, I don't care.

I thought VR intended to not play GNR or STP songs anymore now that they had 2 albums worth?

When there's news of Axl and the new band finally progressing and the realisation that chinese democracy may be closer to our hands than we thought the old romantics have to remind us that there still strong and slash rules.

should i lock this now or in ten minutes time?

i actually think i'll leave it and let anarchy rule. then maybe people will appreciate over-zealous mods who keep this place tidy.

Just to throw the cat in amongst the pigeons.....Everyone thats bitching about Axl not releasing Chinese Democracy should remember that slash hasn't released Chinse Democracy either - yet you never hear anyone bitching about that....

...double standards, anyone?

I've seen VR twice and GnR once.

VR did it's so easy and brownstone both times I saw them, GnR did it so much better IMO.

I can see that many may be happy about the addition of Patience in the VR set.  I like the idea of them bringing out stools and acoustic guitars as this brings a nice dynamic to the live show.  I, however, am not that excited about hearing them do Patience.  How about "You got no right" or "Loving the Alien" or "Last Fight"?  Now these would be very exciting and much more rewarding to hear than a trip down nostalgia lane.  I thought it was a good thing when Slash said they were going to ax the GNR and STP from the live show.  I mean, considering they have 2 albums, plus unreleased originals it doesn't seem to make sense.  The show should be about VR.  Brownstone, Its So Easy, Patience, Sex Type Thing, Crackerman, and Interstate Love Song are all great, but guys, we've heard 'em many, many times and sometimes it becomes time to move on.  Sure wish you had kept your word, Slash!!
