What is keeping this band together?
« on: September 03, 2007, 07:05:16 PM »
I wonder exactly these guys are thinking at this point. With the exceptions of BBF and Frank, the band has remained intact for about 5 years.  5 years of blood, sweat and tears poured into an album that has yet to see the light of day.  Most people(I would think) would have bailed on Axl quite some time ago.
So what is holding them together all this time?  Some would say they're in it for the money and  that they expect a huge payout if the album is ever released. Are they are merely using the GN'R name to gain visibility and prestige?  Could they have genuine feelings of loyalty towards each other?  Are they so proud of the material that they stand behind it this much?  What do you guys think?

I think Axl knows this is a great album.
Tommy knows.
BBF knows.
Fink knows.
Dizzy sees Axl has one of his best friends, and will always be there for him. And knows too.
Richard knows.
Frank - subbing for Brain? I Dont know, but he knows for sure.
Chris knows.

Jeeze, anybody else???

I'd say the most prominent thing keeping these members together has to be $$$

Aside from that, I think they are proud of working with someone like Axl Rose and have enough pride and confidence in the material they have written together. Also touring in front of hundreds of thousands of people during the last few tours has got to be fulfilling.

Probably the fact that they've put the hours in recording and touring on and off over the past year and a half that it would be pretty pointless to throw it all away now.
As for publicity reasons we know that Buckethead 'used' GNR to gain publicity for his solo material and look what happened with him!!
I don't think any of the current band members are in it for that. We know that the tried and trusted (Dizzy,Tommy, Robin, Richard) certainly are n't. Ron seems too honest a guy to be using Axl as well!!
However they must be thinking to themselves as is everybody else when the fuck is this album getting released?

the fucking paycheck keeps 'em together
And just like grim ascension prophecies
My revenge carved deep will be
A grisly plot that reads
Like my filthy white ward spattered with their screams
When My Deviliverers come from fog for me...

This is no different than NIN. They are in it for the paycheck. Some of you guys still look at these guys as part of a real band. They are not. They are contract players. And its probably not a bad gig. But it is what it is.

Has anyone wondered why there is no real band photos? You know like the old guys. The sit down, all made up pictures. None, nada, zip.

well i guess that nowadays it's so common for musicians to be in multiple bands, it's easy for them to do other things while CD is in hiatus.

If it where to happen and hopefully it doesnt (sorry to get of topic here). l wonder if CD would ever see the light of Day if Richard fortus or Tommy Stinson quit tommorrow?

I think Axl would just find replacements and keep going-it's what he's always done.  I agree with most of the posts saying the bottom line here is money, and I doubt Axl is naive enough to believe these guys are hanging around solely for the music.  They may be proud of the music they've made together, but in the end most of these guys are complete mercenaries.
Can anyone provide a source as to how much $ each member gets each month? Someone quoted 10,000 a month and someone else said 40,000-Im not sure if either is accurate, but I'm sure thay are under lucrative contracts regardless.

If I'm not mistaken, the NY Times article in 2005 said they got $11, 000 each month per member.

Could be wrong though.
