Anyone regard B.F and B.H style of guitar player as un-needed in GNR?

To me, both R.F & R.F are a perfect duo in the NEW GNR, but I get a feeling that a fast/wacky shredder is just not needed, and I cringe when I hear a stupidly fast solo as most of them sound "dated" or just there as a gimmick? And bring/add nothing meaningful to the songs they appear on.

I'd rather hear an average guitarist that has played out of his own skin to give me goosebumps than a prodigy w@nking away on a guitar without breaking a sweat.

any thoughts anyone....I need convincing.

please tell me where you got the idea that all he does is shredding

also people often say it's shredding because they aren't used to this sound they are used to hear slash play wich is fine and all but go and listen to some old bootlegs/albums. bumblefoot fits perfectly with the new style gnr has and he compliments robin and richard perfectly.

OK, I agree, Don't cry Instrumental is great by B.F, the type of wacky/fast solo like on, say...better does nothing for me but R.F's solo on better is meaningful.

just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's un-needed atleast that's the way i see it, for example i don't like the ending of locomotive but that doesn't mean it's un-needed

Shredding is clearly not fit for GNR, same as thrash metal. BH and BF do more than that, but if they could limit their shredding it would be better.

why would it be better? i like it way more then how slash played the songs so i can't really see why they should limit what they do and start playing it like the old guys do

Bottom line is..if it add's to the song and takes it to another level then it's always going to be remembered and rated, if it's 30 seconds of fast widdling like an old computer loading up, then it's just there for all the wrong reasons...yeah have 5 minutes showing off live, but within a song keep it meaningful to the song. "goofy sh*t (as Zakk Wylde puts it) like fingering/tapping etc. seems so dated to me.

well i haven't heard one song where it doesn't fit/add to the song itself. if it's his own solo during a live show then why not? it's a not a gnr song he's raping so why not leave it at that

Bumble definatly has a place in this band and Buckethead clearly was a needed factorin the song recording and writing process up until now. Listen to Twat and tell me that you dont need Bucket. Ron is an amazing writer, he doesn't do just shred, listen to his solo work, you can find pretty much and style and e has an amazing ear for melody.

This is always the initial impression of the new GnR, was mine too but I have grown to really like it. Times have changed, GnR has, so just learn to like it or don't listen to it. I think his shreds are really kick ass in songs like Better and IRS. There are just some parts where a shred is unavoidable and just so so fitting.
