Bands change. Evolve. The Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Placebo, Iggy Pop, David Bowie- their sound changes from album to album. Thats what keeps it organic, interesting; not just a living museum of former greatness.
great point.  thats whats beautiful about GN'R now is how they have changed and still kick so much ass on stage and with the 'new' songs.
If it was called "Axl and friends" he could express himself in whatever way he wanted with any type of musician he desired.
But GUN'S N' ROSES (to his long-standing/loyal fans) were, are, and should always be regarded as an authentic hard rock band, then no-one could argue that guns n roses are crap now because they do industrial lite and out there shredding guitar playing. And everyone saying "ohh it's just the same old stuff" "he need's to branch out into other area's" would be happy with the "Axl and friends" stuff.

anyone agree?
Bands change, and so far you aren't finding many who agree with you.  BBF is a great guitarist whats wrong with him in the band?  "OMG ITS NOT SLASH, WHAT AM I GOING TO DO???"

i think all gnr needs is 2 players. bumblefoot and bucket are good players... but their styles don't go well in gnr. i like their solo work. but i'd rather it be bumblefoot and richard fortus than richard and robin.

all axl really needs is a karaoke machine, it'd have most stage presence than the new guys.

he needs drunk dudes who chain smoke and puke on the amps and fall down on stage

that's what nu-gnr is missing, star power

I don't like their styles.  They are talented, but that ultra fast soloing isn't my bag.

Shredding is clearly not fit for GNR, same as thrash metal. BH and BF do more than that, but if they could limit their shredding it would be better.

I think you mean it's not fit for OLD GNR.  This is a new band with a new style.  It's no longer about "fitting" into the mold of OLD GNR, it's about the re-invention in a new direction, new style, new sound. Nothing is outside of the boundaries for this band....let them explore.  If this attitude was projected during the making of AFD, it would have ended up "fitting" into the genre of glam metal.

Bottom line is..if it add's to the song and takes it to another level then it's always going to be remembered and rated, if it's 30 seconds of fast widdling like an old computer loading up, then it's just there for all the wrong reasons...yeah have 5 minutes showing off live, but within a song keep it meaningful to the song. "goofy sh*t (as Zakk Wylde puts it) like fingering/tapping etc. seems so dated to me.

..Yeah shredding and tapping is so dated..

..The guitar in general is so dated..

..Geez get your arse into the 21st century..

..Let's just create our sound on the computer! Forget putting together face melting riffs through skill, forget writing solos the caliber of There Was A Time, let's just be a new age band and be cool!

I guess you either love a style of guitar playing or loath a style of guitar playing...I was nieve to try and back up my argument for BBF and BH type of player not being suited in a band like gnr.
As a kid I was into gnr, skidrow, circus of power etc, the real gritty street bands...and not into via, satriani, Malmsteen etc... I guess that sticks with you.
