as a reply to someone who wrote that we wouldnt no who jeff isabelle was without axl. i think that goes the olther way round too. i think they all needed each other to get that break as izzy wrote some of there great early songs.

and what i meant with the songs sounding similar was that because they all come from axl there is that really good diversity as there was before. like u had duff doing like punk songs like attitude n its so easy. n izzy wrote awesome songs. n slash wrote awesome riffs n stuff. which there seems to be a lack of on any new songs ive heard. n i just dont think the new group can create stuff like that or maybe axl wont let them.. i know twat's solo is awesome. n i love finck hes great as was buckethead ( i wish he was still in the group) .

thats my opinion too, i mean, as good as this band is, i dont think they will ever accomplish lyrically what the other band acomplished... not even close!
In the old band, u had people from the same generation that went through the same problems, adventures etc... they went through the same shit... right now with this new band with all due respect... there isnt much for them to share with each other because they all came from different paths...so they're not really a group, they didnt start from the bottom.. the group was already established when they got there...they didnt have to be vandals on the streets of LA looking for a chance to be musicians they didnt have all that shit.. so.. as far as this band goes, i dont think there is much to tell lyrically, even though they can still make good music.
All u can count on this band is Axl cause he did live through those hard times... With bumble and tommy and whatever, the rawest thing ur gonna hear is how tough it was to have his gf betraying him, or my gf left me and i went on a depression... things like that... prolly they dont go any further... its my opinion, even though i dunno their lives that well... but i know enough to know that they dont have the same experience and didnt went through the same shit as AXL and the old band, they all went through the same shit together, and thats what make them a band!

I agree with most of people here, now GN'R is something like Axl solo project.

In good old days every member of the band was also a member of kind of family. They were young, reckless and free.  :D
Now I think they all have some obligations, they have their own families and I really don't think band members spend a lot of time together. Yes, they are the real band but not a family anymore.
Yes, I know, that these thoughts are well-known but that my impression, my vision of the new band.
So I think that they can be involved lyrically but we shouldn't expect any firework hits like the past ones...
Kinda sad but that's the way It is   :tear:

Haven't read the whole thread, and I'm not going to, but from what I remember, Axl said in some interview that the band composes an instumental version of a song first, and then he writes to it. This would mean that Axl is the one with the most, if not all, input on the lyrics side of Chinese Democracy.

For the sheer amount of time Robin Finck has spent in the band i would hazard a guess he has had a hand in at least helping to write more material.
