Just wondering how we feel or felt when it happened, dont think we ever discussed it in this manner.

Personally, at the time I thought it was good because of my desperation to hear Axl on a published product, and to gauge the response of the music world.  Looking at it now,  It seems no one really cared, and hindsight being 20/20, shouldnt have happened, especially before Chinese Democracy.   The tracks werent anything special, and the non response by the masses(meaning people other than us) seems to be non existent, the music in my opinion was sub-par and Axl shouldnt have touched it with a mile long pole.  Could the response, or lack there of be responsible for whatever the latest delays are, with axls sensitivity and such, could this have been a blow to his ego?  Was he hoping for a bigger acknowledgment from the music world, and enough attention from the non diehards to finally feel comfortable with his own work?  Was it a test to see if he is actually still important?  And if so did he realize that he is not so big, his name doesnt carry enough by itself anymore, and he actually does need lots of cash to promote his album?  I think he was gauging the response to see how hard he would have to promote his album, and this could possibly be the reason for the long negotiation process.

Axl: I need this much cash because only this many people bought or Heard angel down.

geffen:Youve had plenty of money and time to do this, you get what mary J blige gets and thats final.

Hence the drawn out process we seem to be encountering right now, because honestly how long does it take to promote an album when everyone is on the same page? Someone(axl) or something(stubbornness) has to be holding it up for some reason, most likely differences in opinion on monetary output.

People have talked about ideas for a unique release method, (the radiohead style, or a few inventive ways created by our very own here on the forums) and the possibility that the company is having trouble finding ways to ensure a profit.   I dont think they are that smart or worried about it, I would bet that they have their stance and thats that.  I would also bet that Axl either wants a shitload of money or something new to get it out there, and has cited events such as(negative) angel down or (positive)the last tour for his reasoning.  He could be saying the tour was great, which proves people care, but angel down was irrelevant, which proves more people need to know.  In the end, I think it comes down to him eventually having to swallow his pride and let the company have the CD and do what they want with it, which if youve read slashs book, you would begin to think that it might never happen.

The Bach thing was absolutely unimportant. No one cared, except members of this forum.

yea, id say bad and unimportant,  unimportant because like you said, no one cared, and bad because it could cause axl to go further into reclusiveness(if possible) due to ego damage, and give the label leverage making them in control of how the album is promoted, and we all know how axl feels about not having control. These actions could cause a long and bitter stalemate.

only one problem......
nobody else gave a shit.
And just like grim ascension prophecies
My revenge carved deep will be
A grisly plot that reads
Like my filthy white ward spattered with their screams
When My Deviliverers come from fog for me...

yeah, the vocals were nice, but the music was crap, and I dont think he made up for the generic rhythms.

Adding his name to the project amounted to absolutely nothing for record sales, but it's hard to believe Axl would think it would since there was zero advertising. You could hardly find 1 copy in most record stores. Axl's not stupid though. I think his main objective was to get his feet wet again. Maybe he didn't want a lot of people hearing him yet. The critics were impressed with his voice though, so maybe that bolstered his confidence.

If people walk in a shop and see 'Sebastian Bach' they don't care. It's not like it had posters saying AXL ROSE everywhere to sell the album.

If they walk in and see 'Guns N Roses'- there will be waaay more sales.

Most young people don't know who Bach is.

A Guns N Roses album is different.

alright...

pretty simple,  without being a member of this board or a gnr fan, I would have never known AXL was on a recent album release.

there was no promotion for bach's album here (chicago market)  and I only bought it simply to hear AXL.  I had to look all over the place for it, no one knew it was coming out.   It has been out for a few months and yet when I say to someone "have you heard AXL on bach's new album?"

the two responses I get are " When does the album come out?'  not knowing it has been out for a couple of months or " I didn't know he was still singing ( talking about bach)"

without these fan sites, no one would even know or care that AXL ROSE still exists in society.  sad but true..

I am a fan of gnr, one day the album will drop and I still feel it will be a huge success unfortunately they still have so much to do before they can drop it if they expect it to sell!

the way i see it...

Axl wanted to do those songs with Bach, so he did.

Simple as that.

It had nothing to do with CD and it had nothing to do with promotion of himself or the GnR name.  Axl simply does what he wants, when he wants, and truthfully, if he didn't, we wouldn't have the music we have.

So let him do his thing.  He was great on Bach's tracks, he's great on the leaks.

His cameo on Bach's album was what it was, don't bother labeling it as anything.

I kind of seeing it as if axl just did it to feed the fans enough to keep them waiting,

just to keep them satisfied, string em along if you will,

To answer the question, Did it get us any closer to Chinese Democracy?
I have to say no
cause look at the situation we are in now,

Didly Fucking Squat

but what can we do with a bitch like axl

I don't think they were exceptional, they were pretty normal, nothing really worth attention, IMHO

well its two different things. first of all, sebastian's album didnt have any promotion whatsoever, and it's a solo album.

Being a solo album, u cant count on a big promotion, and believe me, only some of skid row fans bought this album. i mean if u notice, they didnt even produced a video for a song or anything like that. Half the skid row fans doesnt even know, axl is in it.

anyways, with guns n roses its different, guns n roses is a marketable name and an established name, so people are always gonna buy CD and the follow ups too even if it sucks. why? cause they will get curious, if CD perhaps sux, they will get curious if the follow ups are any better.

just look at metallica'a example.... Load, reload, st anger sucked... but cmon, do u think for a minute that the early metallica fans didnt buy any of these albums?? think again, cause they did, even if it was just to see if they got any better... or at leats they checked it out!

Guns N'Roses will be the same as metallica's example.

its not gonna be like sebastian's album.... they're obligied to have at least one music video, and just for that factor, even new fans will born.

I mean, imagine those kids who are just tunning in to rock music now, or those kids who never heard any GNR song, and there's the other kids who will like CD more than the other albums...
