would you feel comfortable referring to a black person as a 'colored' person to their face?

its a tricky one, unless you're an albino then we're all coloured, just some more so than others, but then again noone is actually "black" either

my aunt works as a primary school teacher in the uk and they have to use whatever is considered most politically correct at the time, at the moment it is "black" but 5 or 6 years ago she was told that she should always use "coloured"

to be honest i've never mentioned to any black friends of mine that they are black or coloured though, i always presumed that they already knew that

i totally am not racist and i think calleing a person colored is demaning.  however calling them black isn't because i think african american is a poor description.  a white person can be from africa, are they african-american?

no, i think the correct word is black.  colored is offensive.  and negro is offensive.  and n*gger is one of the most vile words in all of the english langague.

but you'd say black because you had to identify him somehow.  if you were giving a description of him to the police certianly one of the first things you would mention was that he was a person of color eh?

Heres something that i hate: Black folk who call each other "nigger." If its such a degrading word, why say it to one another?

I remember getting one of those email things from a friend saying:

A black man walks into a cafe in New York and the waiter says "Sorry, no coloured people allowed in here."
The black man replies "I am not coloured. You are more coloured than me"
The waiter laughs at the black man, making him look foolish.
The black man says "When you were born you were pink, when you're cold your blue, when you're hot your red, when you're sick your green. When I was a baby I was black. When I'm cold I'm Black. When I'm hot I'm Black. When I'm sick I'm black, and YOU have the cheek to call me coloured?"
The waiter stepped away from the man, and walked away fast"

If it's offensive to call black people "colored" then why is one of the biggest groups representing black people called the National Asociation for the Advancement of Colored People(NAACP)?

My mother is puerto rican and my had is jewish, I just perfer to get called by my name rather than people using some politically correct term for my race.  I am an individual and I feel sorry for those who have to identify with other people solely on their skin color in order to feel like they belong in this world.
