When i sing i just have managed to nearly master that same risp and hard rockin' voice of Axl's once you have mastered it and you can do a good handfull of gigs doing old material then and only then may you have a chance of signing the new stuff, its all about if you have the voice or not!!, Risp is the word, and you cant try and fake it you have to have that sound,

Rasp?

The Blues is just fuckin pipe-blowing man

indeed it is! it can be tough for somebody and definitely ruin their chords. i can imagine many people get the click in 3:25'ish part of the song where he is going "aaaah aaah aah"
and also, that outro part starting with "what i thought was beautiful was only memories oh oooh oh " it took a while for me to get that very last part to hit right. very easy to click and lose your breath singing street of dreams.

I have been singing for a year and a half now, and I notice that it seems harder to sing the new gnr songs, than it is the older ones.  Do any of you other singer notice the same thing???? I dont know if its just me, or the new songs are acutally harder to sing.

do you have any samples of you singing old and new? if you wanna try to expand your breath threshold, try singing while running. it may not sound very pretty but you eventually learn to manage your flow. also, try expanding your belly and getting full breaths when belting the words out. also, dictation could be playing a role. try rounding your mouth out a little more. in addition, drink lots of room temp water, make sure you're breathing steady when working out (and singing), keep a nutritious diet, and keep practicing!
dunno if this will help but try singing on an empty stomach, see if you can hit some real high notes.
I'm sorry for you, not sorry for me!
