anyone who has followed gnr since the beginning, or has read the new 'Watch You Bleed' book, or even listened to 'the spaghetti incident', would know that axl has always claimed to be influenced by a bit of everything. as stated in 'TSI' booklet, 'a good song can be found anywhere'. it is obvious now, as it was in 1987, that axl has paid attention to what has happened in all music, and is still allowing it to creep into his writing. he has borrowed the parts he likes and created something that sounds different than everything else out there.  it may have elements that may remind one of certain genres but what has been heard so far, is still distinct enough to sound original. if someone wants to hang on to the blues based, punk influenced, hard rock that was created 20 years ago, good for them. speaking only for myslef i am more intrigued by what may come next. i have been listening to 'Appetite' for 21 years, 'UYI' for 17 years, both are very different than the other. what has escaped from CD is showing a wide variety of directions. it's why i come here. it's new, it's good, and it still has trademark Axl Rose vocals and melodies.

a watered down version of a singer that was once great, subtract all the venom and identity represented by his former bandmates, and add a little generic mix of everything bad from every other generic pop music genre since 95, and u have the current gnr sound

I totally disagree with everything you wrote there . Can you tell me what you are doing on a fan board when you obviously think this band is crap . F**** jerk!  :ninja:

A little bit of just about everything. Which is genius on his part. This album will attract a wider range of people. There's at least one song out of all the leaks that everyone likes.

this makes me think that he's just following the popular trends

Cesar Romero FTW!

Anyways, I would say ultra-modern rock.

well that is fine if that is how you view it-your opinion is just as valid as mine. i, on the hand, think it shows he has an open mind and can find something good in various types of music. i don't know about you but my tastes in music has evolved over the past 20 years. it is obvious to me that axl is NOT allowing himself to be stuck in 80's like so many of the other bands of the time. as far as trends go...i don't think i have heard another song in the past 20 years that resembles 'madagascar', 'if the world' or 'new song #2'. there may be elements of other bands found through out, but the various musicians axl has worked with, plus his vocal style and melodies is what sets it apart from most of what's out there. a song like 'the blues' sounds like something that could have been on UYI-a far cry from a popular trend(since no one has done anything similar since). every modern day musician has borrowed something from somewhere(unless it's a self taught musician who has spent their life in a cave...sadly we'll never hear their art).

I'm still hoping Shacklers is not what the leak is.  I played it for someone who gave me Use Your Illusions back in the day and he made the funniest "wtf" face when the solo started with the slide.

Please Axl more piano less noise, catcher Owns.
