Tired of Obama lovers forcing him on me!
« on: September 08, 2008, 01:41:02 AM »
The VMAs tonight have pushed me over the edge with this years campaign. I'm taking a speech class and my teacher is having us do a speech on either Obama or McCain. The problem is, my teacher is forcing us to be for Obama. She has made it clear that unless our speeches are for Obama, she will not be accepting them. Then tonight the host of the VMAs is acting the same way. At this point I am not for either of the candidates and I don't need someone else telling me who to believe or how I should feel. I know if I don't write about Obama it's going to impact my grade. I just don't understand why most of the people who support Obama have to keep shoving it down everyone's throats.

I think it is sad that college professors can get away with making you pick Obama or suffer. I was very iritated with the speech at the VMA's also. I wish politics and entertainment would be kept seperate.

I'd much prefer Obama over McCain but he's not some sort of perfect political messiah that many people make him out to be.

Teachers forcing political opinions on students is blatantly out of order though. That's outrageous, whether you agree with them or not. A teacher's job is not to indoctrinate and propagandise.

What happened at the VMAs btw? Do you mean Russell Brand when he said that, on behalf of the world, you should elect Barack? I've only seen bits of the show.

Yes he said that Bush was horrible, that in the UK they wouldn't trust him with a pair or scissors, and to please please elect Barrack Obama.

It wasn't a good idea to have someone come from another country and rip our president apart. On mtv.com they said they fired that guy in the UK because the day after September 11th 2001 he came to work dressed as Bin Laden. Then last night he is calling anyone who doesn't support Obama a racist. I think he is racist against Americans.

In this school I encounter these situations every semester. I normally just have the same opinion as the teacher in order to get by. I have the freedom to keep who I want to vote for to myself. That is why we vote in a private booth. There were about 10 other people in the class. I don't know how brave they would be about going against the bitch teacher though. I am a senior but they are all first time freshman. I waited to take this class because it is an early morning one.  :shy:

Uh, if your teacher is forcing political opinions upon students I'd complain to the principal/head teacher, I'm fairly certain that's a disciplinary if not outright sackable offence.

Yes he said that Bush was horrible, that in the UK they wouldn't trust him with a pair or scissors, and to please please elect Barrack Obama.

This is true though, we wouldn't let George Bush near our worst enemies over here.  What he said is pretty much exactly what the rest of the world is thinking; please not another republican in the white house because the fact is that until 8 years ago we all quite liked America until they started shitting all over the rest of the planet.  While we don't think McCain would be as bad we just all seem to get along much better with the Democrats.

At the end of the day though it's your president, not ours so our opinion doesn't really count for shit

The problem is that my school is really small. If I go to the main campus about her I will be screwed. Last year we had a bunch of students talk to the Dean about the teachers, and now they are all gone. All of the teachers told us who the students were and how they were going to get them kicked out. It's a conspiracy.  :disgust:

It's cool to hear someone from another country give their opinion on Bush. I had no idea that he made the rest of the world feel that way. He's done a few things for us that I stand by, such as the No Child Left Behind Act, and few other things he's done for teachers. But for the most part, it will be nice to have a new start.

Bring a tape recorder to class with you....
do it !  Don't be afraid.... As far as I am
concerned this is treason and a national
security issue... If you feel that strongly
about it...do it... you will have a huge
backing if you do this...

Tell your teacher in class how you disagree
with this assignment... Where do you go to
school... btw.. Can you say?

What she said..

Then call some News Channel. They'd love something like that especially with how hot politics are.

Then sue the school and become a millionare.

Buy the rights to the name Guns N' Roses and keep the rest of the millions you get from the suit.

Give me the Gn'R name for the above great idea.

Woah, you're taking it waaaay too seriously.

He probably only used the Obama thing as a set up for the classic Bush is an idiot related punchline. I doubt if he's even that bothered.

Oh and he was a drugged up alcoholic when the Osama Bin Laden incident occurred, so I wouldn't hold it against him. He was an obscure television presenter in the UK at the time but now he's sober and pretty much one of the most famous comedians in the country.

Russell Brand is a household name over here. Personally, I think he's hilarious if a bit full of himself sometimes. Whether his brand of (lame pun not intended) raunchy, controversial and in-your-face humour was the right choice for the overly sensitive audience of pretentious douche bags at the VMAs is another matter, however.

I found a clip of what he said:

Bit odd considering a good amount of the people watching aren't old enough to vote. (Hannah Montana, Jonas Brother fans, etc.) Also the clip cuts just before he says the Jonas Brothers should where the rings that symbolize, "no sex till marriage" on their genitals instead of their fingers :?:

On Topic:

Your teachers can't force you to support Obama, but it doesn't seem like you have much of a choice if they can get students kicked out when the students have valid arguments.

I must be an overly sensitive pretentious douche bag then because I take the VMAs pretty seriously. Music is really important to me. It's the only time when people really express themselves. I used to enjoy the VMAs and I was excited this year since it was their 25th anniversary. I expected them to have some old bands on or to reckognize the bands that helped MTV to get where they are. But intead I got a host who is a scum bag. When you are from another country it comes off as insulting when you joke about things that people are sensitive about. I guess my sense of humour differs from those in the UK. It's not often that I get offended but the VMAs were bad enough without this losers bad jokes.
