Guitar Hero / Rockband Hype
« on: September 17, 2008, 11:18:55 AM »
I don't know about you guys.. But I think people are taking this video game too far. I've seen people talking about how playing that toy guitar is harder and takes more skill than the real deal.

I think these gamers look retarded carrying those toy guitars on their back with a strap no less saying that they're going to a "gig" at their friends house.

I don't know man. In the beginning I use to just pass the shit off as a kids game or a nice way for kids to have fun as if they were doing the real think, I could totally see that.. but these older peeps living their "rock star" dreams through that plastic piece of shit has become pretty annoying.

I've never played the game man. Held the guitar in my hand for like 2 seconds and it just felt like a toy you know? Playing a Les Paul and picking that shit up put it in perspective for me.

Anyway.. are you guys annoyed with it too?  Do some of you play it and "jam" with your friends?

I think they're awesome AS GAMES but yeah I know what you mean and it annoys me too...

there's few guys in my school that talked about GH few days ago..and they were like

" oh shit that dragonforce song is so damn hard in GH but I can play it, I think I have some great musical skills"
and stuff like that.. and they acted like they are real musicians or something  :smoke:
I got fucking pissed off and told them that they're fucking lame if they think that

Guitar Hero is nothing compared to the real thing .. it's just a fucking game!!!

Ha ha.  I went to a friends party at his house, pool, rock band, food, girls, good stuff right?  Well I sang a couple songs then sang a duet with some girl on the rock band game, and got 97-99% of notes hit, people thought I was a profesianal singer.  I also picked up the guitar and I said hey I can play that song on guitar, and someone said you can't be good at it cuz you suck at guitar hero.   Oh and bet i do suck at that song though, I havent been playing very long...

Yea some of them thing also that going to play a War game is kind of like war, and well aint that the biggest BS lol.
The sad part is when they stop pursuin their dreams to stay in the game world.
I have been a gamer all my life (since pac man) and io love video game as a hoby.
But my dreams of Singing wouldnt be fullfiled by a game being on a Stage and playing with a band live cannot be compared to anything a video game or even technology can give you , That magic only happens when you truly conect with the music and the band.
Maybe some of the younger ones will actualy pick up a real instrument and learn how to play. and others well they will still dream about being rock stars and we will continue to laught when they try to tell the real musicians that they are better with a toy than a true instrument.

It's a fun game no doubt, but I get pissed at the game more than I do the people who are really into it.  It is completely different than actually playing music on guitar.  I myself have a hard time getting past medium and I've heard from other guitar players that playing Guitar Hero and Rock Band just pisses them off because they can't do it.  I'm sure the people who are really good at it blow it way out of proportion and feel that they are the masters of the universe because they can play a game.  But this is just a fad and will blow over in due time.  I'd be willing to bet that if one of the more difficult songs on Guitar Hero was played on a guitar by a guitar player that the people there would be much more impressed than if it was on the game.

I say let people have their fun with the game, let them do whatever it is they please because in the end it is just a game.

What would impress me, is rather than the guitar controller, is if someone could play it as good with a regular play station or xbox controller and be amazing at it.  Then and only then will I give them credit that they can do something crazy.

I do find it annoying.  I got in an argument once...  (actually he posts on this forum) and we argued on msn

He was excited about Guitar hero and I was like yea ok I don't care about the game .... and told him its nothing like playing guitar for real. He got offended and said it is basically the same.  I'm like no man... you are matching colors with location.....  might as well play simon says.

What are your current thoughts about Kurt Cobain?

Axl: I said I'm going on ChiDem now and he said whatever & walked away other than that I've been busy.

I don't mind them as games. I don't play them myself but they look pretty fun and I can see the appeal.

I only have an issue when people get ridiculously into it and start spending lots of money and time on it like it's some kind of worthwhile pursuit.

Rock Band is expensive with all the peripherals and then add that to Guitar Hero and its peripherals and you end up with a huge pile of expensive fisher price instrument-shaped controllers. Then there's the silly accessories you can buy, like a fucking Rock Band branded smoke machine and shit (I kid you not).

All of a sudden, you end up with a living room full of fake music gear worth hundreds of dollars and the whole thing quickly becomes very absurd. With that money you could buy a real guitar and an amp and spend your time doing something far more valuable and rewarding.

They're great games but I wish people would treat them as games and stop taking them so damn seriously.

As for those who say the guitars are tantamount to playing a real instrument, that's retarded. You're basically playing dance dance revolution, re-marketed to rockers. How the hell is that like playing an instrument? You're matching up coloured buttons to cues on a fucking screen.

Thats exactly what I'm talking about. I was talking to this dude who everyone hails as a GH champ type of guy and he was pissed at me that I was not at all impressed with his "playing skills".

Its like... I don't even know what to say to idiots like that. What I did was hold his guitar in one hand and held my guitar (an nice black, heavy Les Paul Studio) in the other and just held them both out to him.

Its like.. what is there to even argue about?

i loved the sarcasism in that post

Back on topic.... i think that sometimes it is a big hype but its a good way of learning music (sorta). but some people ive met think just because they can play expert on whatever song on guitar hero means they are awesome at real guitar

Beileve me the guitar is not an easy instrument to learn or play. it takes dedication
