Chinese Democracy sounding dated??
« on: September 21, 2008, 05:10:00 PM »
Whats up with that? Ya i know some of the songs may have been written back in the 90's but in some review i read about Shacklers Revenge it said it sounded like it shouldve been released around when "Smells like teen spirit" was released. WTF? umm no Shacklers sounds like a breath of fresh air! The music thats popular today is SHIT!!!! Like when did Disney decide they wanted to become music? Metallica's Death Magnetic is the greatest thing to happen since Angle Down.. Chinese isnt dated its just not the shit that people are being fed today so its no wonder these fucking reviewers slam it. All the leaks sound modern and great. thoughts??

And some will feel it doesn't sound dated enough (i.e. nothing like 80s GNR)

The material we have heard so far would have been fairly well received if it had been released on a realistic time scale, back in say 2002.

The thing now is that whatever they release, it will be royally hammered by the press, and rightly so IMO. If it takes 15 years to make an album, it can't be good. Even if the album featured the 13 best songs of all time, it would still get a reaction  of "We waited 15 years for this?".

This is why the non-release is killing GNR's future income, had they just tossed it out it would have done okay, but lingering on like this does it no favours.

From the time November Rain was written to it's release... It would have been considered dated too...

that sounds like an interesting thread...

"if November Rain was released in '85-'87" ... how would it influence the 80s"

Chinese Democracy sounding dated??

"There is nothing new under the sun"

However, Shackler's for one sounds fresh. The new songs aren't pro-tooled to death. No auto-pitch, etc.,
which is a breath of fresh air. There's a level of fire and hunger to the songs, not just Axl, but by the rest of Guns N' Roses. There's something to prove, an edge, an intangible yet classic rock n' roll attitude with plenty of "fuck you" ready to fly.

It may not sound like GN'R circa 1987, but it certainly is contemporary and will be a hit when finally put on the shelves.
