Well, I'll try to add some perspective here---

You can't trust Amazon.Com product descriptions any farther than you can throw a car through a window.
Why? Well let's see....

1: It uses the old album cover, not the new album cover. So already it's suspect whether or not the listing represents what's actually being sold.

2: It pulls out a review from 2005, again, not representing what's being sold. It doesn't say 'new transfer/mastering', it doesn't say 'with original album cover and new booklet', nothing. It's a generic copy paste to fill up the page.

3: I've bought DVDs where they were supposed to have '2 discs' and they were only '1 disc' - you can't trust Amazon product descriptions all the time - esp with "import" which seems like 'let's put any old crap for info up there!'. There's listings for products they don't sell and may like, actually, not really exist since they do Amazon sellers/market. And this is obviously an incomplete place holder.

4: $22.99 is REALLY expensive now-a-days for CDs, especially back catelogs. The "import" version is supposedly going to be 30 bucks on Amazon. So it MUST at least be remastered and have new/the original album art on it to match the vinyl. And if there's another CD in there... who knows. But I doubt commerce would be that lame to package a 9.99 AFD as a 22.99 AFD with nothing different.

So we have
[new art, modern mastering(which might be worse)] ................[old demos]............[videos]..............[NuAFD]

I see this as a gradient. We've been dissapointed before, but... this can't just be a 22.99 version of what I can get at Target for 9.99.

But if you're looking at Amazon.com for clues... uh, I wouldn't bother. Too unreliable at this stage.

My thoughts exactly. There has to be something different.

Whatever it is, I just loved the review. This is true love straight from the heart of a true fan.
His respect and feelings for his favourite band are exactly the same as mine :)
So I guess the review isn't very objective...

"This is a dream for all Guns N' Roses fans!   10/31/2008
By bellisima from Paradise City, USA"

"What's great about it: Experience art from one of history's greatest minds & one of history's greatest singer, songwriter, frontman, rock bands
What's not so great: Nothing

"Axl Rose is a Genius and will be remembered as one of history's most brilliant, talented artists.

Guns N' Roses is one of the best bands in history and "Appetite for Destruction" is one of history's best albums.

Axl Rose redefined the "rock 'n' roll frontman" with his genius, eloquence, talent, charisma and grace.

Guns N' Roses redefined the rock 'n' roll band with their raw, no-holds-barred attitude -- which was never, ever manufactured (as so many other musicians were/are "created" and "molded" by publicists and their record companies). With Guns N' Roses it was/is always what you see is what you get -- no pretense.

"Appetite for Destruction" changed rock 'n' roll forever and now more than twenty years after its release is still a huge seller and mentioned constantly in top music album lists/top rock album lists in history -- right along with the band that created it.

Thank you to Axl and Guns N' Roses for giving all fans, including/especially us young fans for the opportunity to share in the excitement of Guns N' Roses.

Between this limited edition release and the new "Chinese Democracy" release -- this is a dream come true for any Guns N' Roses fan (and any true fan of music).

Buy this album. You will not be disappointed!

Thank you, Axl and GN'R!!! Rock on!!! Love from your fans, forever!!!"

Would you recommend this product to a friend?: Yes "

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But then again, this doesn't say shit about what, if anything, is different with it. And just because it might be some Japanese shit isn't exactly a big enough candybar for me, so to speak...

:P

This is a import re-issue. I'd definitely go for a Geffen US press from 87 with the original artwork on eBay.
