was CD the best choice for 1st single?
« on: October 23, 2008, 02:54:07 PM »
I must say that I am a bit disappointed with this decision. I do hope it's only a part of a greater scheme, but CD is not the best choice for the first single.
it's not the strongest, or anywhere near to the strongest track... Axl him self said it's not a big gun, so the choice is puzzling.
Finck... you fag!  :( why did you have to go...?

the choice makes enough buzz to attract people, and it's the most straight-in-the-face track. so it's the only logical choice for first single. same as with YCBM - not the best track, but the most rocking track was picked.

It's a title track so it's very recognizable. Plus it's a rock song... So they will go as they did with AFD and UYI. First single rock, then a ballad, a rock song, a ballad etc.

Yeah, it's a good old fashioned rocker that appeals to both old and new fans alike. It's the perfect choice IMO

My choice would have been "Better" but any rocker is a good choice.

Agreed Lucky - it's certainly given the haters the ammunition they needed to use the predictable "15 years for this?!" argument.

It's an awesome track, but it doesn't best represent how great the album is.

It is a good teaser and introduction for what is coming. I think it's better to show the big guns after people have been waken up...

exactly. starting with anything more complex than the title track would most people consider boring and too complicated.

i like this song as a single, and it has gotten pretty good reviews so far. So I think they went with the right choice.
And you never know there will be more to come.. this is just getting started

It is the farthest thing Away from Emo that would make a good single on the album. Thats right, Axl doesn't want to be defined as November Rain , Estranged, Don't Cry type of songs... even though thats what makes up most of the album.

There's a very simple theory, the correct order of singles for cd is:

1. Chinese Democracy
2. Shackler's Revenge
3. Better
4. Street Of Dreams
5. If The World
6. There Was A Time
7. Catcher N' The Rye
8. Scraped
9. Riad N' The Bedouins
10. Sorry
11. IRS
12. Madagascar
13. This I Love
14. Prostitute
 ;)

Let's just take it a little easy, I think CD(the single) will will slowly be picked up more and more.
And with a second single with the likes of a song like Prostitute? I don't know but people just can't get around songs like that!

Better has been my long time favorite for the first single, but i like this too, i think its good rocker and kicks ass too. And im happy to see this happening, even it isn't my favorite song of the new songs.
