Who are Axl's peers in the film and literary world?
« on: October 30, 2008, 06:43:19 AM »
Will Chinese Democracy confirm Axl as a visionary musician?

Catcher in the Rye suggests Axl's a musical Salinger, but in his Civil War best I'd also compare him to Kerouac's visions for a new world.  Welcome to the Jungle is also reminiscent of the Beats' subterranean existence.

On the film front, while Civil War includes words from the classic Cool Hand Luke I'd put Axl's rebellious youth and visionary adulthood as a mirror of Terrence Malick's film career, from Badlands through to The Thin Red Line and The New World.

Would you agree?

I don't think there's anything visionary about directly ripping off other peoples work really i mean i could qoute Einstien or anyone else but that wouldn't make me as talented as them for merely copying there words. Although the songs will be enjoyable and some of them defintely timeless classics.

Cheers for your wise words.  Yes, I guess it's hard to be totally original these days, and you can only usually add to others' work.  Guess we'll see when Chinese Democracy comes out how ground-breaking it is.
