There Was a Time
Guns N' Roses

Broken glass and cigarettes,
writing on the wall,
it was a bargain for the summer,
and I thought I had it all.
I was the one who gave you everything,
the one who took the fall,
you were the one who would do anything,
the one who can't recall.

Where she was while she was sleeping,
in another woman's bed,
or the doctors or the lawyers,
or a stranger that she met.
If there's nothing I can gain from this,
or anything at all,
it'd be the knowledge that ya gave me,
when I thought I'd heard it all.

It was a long time for you,
it was a long time for me,
it'd be a long time for anyone,
but looks like it's meant to be.

Social class and registers,
cocaine in the hall,
all the way from California,
on the way to your next call
to those non-negotiations,
To simulate a call
For the betterments of evil
and your ways around the laws
that keep you up sitting pretty,
on a pedestal or bed
and now you're sleeping like an angel,
Nevermind who gave you head

If there's something I can make of this,
or anything at all,
it'd be the devil hates a loser and
you thought you had it all.

It was a wrong time for you,
it was a wrong time for me,
it was the wrong time for everyone
but looks like I've got to see for myself

If I could go back in time to the place
in my soul, there all alone,
lonely tear drops,
ooh, are calling you.
but I don't wanna know it now,
'cause knowing you it won't it change a damn thing.
but there was a time.

(Solo)

yeah, there was a time,
didn't wanna know it all,
didn't wanna know it all and
I don't wanna know it now,

yeah, there was a time,
didn't wanna know it all,
didn't wanna know it all and
I don't wanna know it now,

(Solo)

Oh, I would do anything for you,
there was a time,
I would do anything for you,
oh, I would do anything for you,
there was a time.

(Solo)

There was a time,
I would do anything for you,
yeah there was a time,
didn't wanna know it all,
didn't wanna know it all,
I don't wanna know it now,
didn't wanna know it all,
didn't wanna know it all,
I don't wanna know it now

I love the newly added repeated whispers "there was a time" when Axl is singing "It was a long time". However the solo's are what makes the song good.

I love this song, one of my favourites!! Love the guitar work, the orchestral work, Axl's voice in the second half of the song is so intense!!

VERY VERY cool song
the best solo on the album possibly
and the piano reminds me of radiohead
i think its the sound of the way its recorded
amazingly well done
All cautions made, every chance was given, no effort spared, to save what we had*
or it would take, away the light we given, once it is ours, were free from this land

This one has been my favorite since i first heard the 06 leak!!
It still kicks ass, i could of went without a little of those noises at the intro, but
Its a newgnr classic !!!  Bands just don't write songs like this anymore!!

It's more  of a growl than a whisper to me. :)

My least favorite song on the album, it just never really got to me. I was hoping for new vocals.

It reminds me of the voice in You Ain't the First.
