Ah yes, naturally. But how come it gets to you? At least expound on your postulations.

The tone of the whole song is about some deep contempt and sadness about it. The line just briefly shows the contempt more explicitly, gives a glimpse of what simmers below, so I think it fits well. It doesn't particularly make me react.

There's real acid in how it throws someone's words back at them so sarcastically and bitterly, I find it more pathetic (in the true sense of the word) than funny.
