Chinese Democracy US Sales Drop a Whopping 78%

GUNS N' ROSES' new album, "Chinese Democracy", sold just under 57,000 copies in the United States in its second week of release to land at position No. 18 on The Billboard 200 chart. This represents a whopping 78-percent drop from the CD's opening-week tally of 261,000.

"Chinese Democracy" dropped out of the U.K. Top 10 this past Sunday (December 7), having landed at No. 11 in its second full week of release. The CD debuted at No. 2 in the U.K. after failing to outsell "Day & Age", the latest album from Las Vegas rock group THE KILLERS.

Only singer Axl Rose remains in the current GUNS roster, having taken some 15 years to complete "Chinese Democracy" with a revolving cast of musicians.

According to Hits Daily Double, the companion web site of music industry tip sheet HITS, most of the blame for "Chinese Democracy"'s relative lack of promotion rests at the feet of Axl Rose. IGA (Interscope Geffen A&M) and Best Buy were reportedly handicapped on a number of levels, due in large part to Rose's refusal to participate in the setup — dramatically reducing the ability of the label and Best Buy to market the release.

guns just aint that relevant
sorry to say it
but its true
todays kids want recycled beats,and rappers, or generic indie twaddle
not genuinely talented groups making decent music

i guess we all rushed to uy it in the 1st week
got it to chart
and now the novelty is gone from the public
they are just "meh"

 There was only one outcome in the end for this album possible. Failure.  The Album was released in a most bizarre way that I can't even imagine.  There was 15 years of work poured into this album, alot of heart, sweat, and tears. Why would anyone release an album that would only be sold at Best Buy in the United States? No one even knows Guns n' Roses have put a new album out. You can't go to the record store and buy it. You can't go to Wal Mart or Target and buy it. No one knows. The blame for the initial failure of this album lies with Geffen.  You can only ask yourselves. Would you, as a band,  promote an album that would be released in such a way that it would doomed?  IF things could be changed, this album would have never been in the hands of Geffen.

Aww... what happened Zom? I remember months ago you were BIG time saying this album was going to be the shit of shits? I remember you fully supporting Axl and this new circus of his saying it was gold..

Now that we finally have Axl's music AND its failed.. would you be more open to the real Gn'R giving this 2009 shit a go?
