Delay settings for WTTJ?
« on: March 02, 2004, 07:29:49 AM »
Hey guys,
I just got a Boss DD-3, and I was wondering if anyone knew the settings for it to reproduce the Welcome to the Jungle intro live?

Thanks!

Not Live, but from the Offical Tab Book [Explained] it says:

Quote
Start off by setting the "effect mix" to almost even with the original signal (about 50%) and the delay "time" to about 150 milliseconds (ms). The feedback control (which controls the amount of echo's) should be set to about 65%.

*Delay time - 1 beat = 8 quarter beats

If it helps, I could scan the intro tab (won't be able to scan till later this week tho).

I guess for the Live intro, it'd just be about the same...

Just mess around untill you get the delay which you feel comfortable keeping in time with (you MUST stay in time with the delay, otherwise it goes out of time and sounds shite!)

;)

That's a pedal which are shite for delay...as you can't set them properly.

You will have to play around with it till you think you have it right...

The Boss Delay pedals etc have knobs for Delay Time, Speed etc...where as effects pedal delay doesn't.

Umm, that is impossible, considering there is a delay on the  4th string when you play the 5th.

don't use delay...
tho it says it in every tab book..etc...ppl misinterpret it..
When he was in the studio..Slash never hooked up a delay pedal for the song...it was added later by the producer to the guitar track with a rack delay....

Even live..Slash doesn't use it.  He picks all the notes manually...just practice...u'll get it..and it will sound way better than any delay pedal.

u obviously don't know who you're talking to...
For the UYI tour Slash used a boss Delay pedal live...but rarely...it was more for the clean jam parts..like between DTJ and Civil War....

he doesn't use Delay for WTTJ....He does it all with picking.
I think there are a few gtr players on here that would attest to this.

The Delay u hear on appetite's version, was added later...slash didn't use it while recording..he played it the same way he played it live..manually...
The delay added on appetite was done by the producer..Mike Clink.

obviously "u" don't know what you are talking about.  i don't know what live preformances you are speaking of but on every single bootleg that i have and live cd or recording of wttj in general he uses delay.  it is clear.  you can't make the delay sound manually.  i'm not saying he didn't do it in the first place and it was never ever heard by anyone that may be true, touche my friend. but you are wrong he definitley does it live.  i don't know what "guitar" players are going to attest something that isn't true.

Me.

Slash don't use it live. It sounds different live, he starts off with a palm mute and taps the string to give it an echo effect, then just does pull offs down the scale.

Simple. Well not really...I still haven't mastered the speed he does it at. But that's the concept.

That's what I loved about Guns - when you saw them live, you don't hear what you hear on the album. Different sound, bits added in. True live rock n' roll.

yeah, i beleive i suggested to some people here to play it like that back in 2004 or something and everyone called me an idiot then too

i dunno if he uses a delay pedal or not, i just play it like that because i personally don't own a delay pedal
